It make sense to me that there are different leagues for men and women in certain sports, such as tennis, basketball, track and field, and golf. But there are some sports where it makes no sense to me to have different leagues, one for men, one for women. Examples (and feel free to add your own):
Billiards.
Poker.
Bowling. |

Did I just say that?

| I wasn't aware of the women poker leagues, but I'm not surprised.
A few more to add are basketball, baseball/softball, hockey... you get the idea. What happened to my old America where everyone was created equal?

Back to your premise though, Curling could definitely be added.

| yeaah yeah, same principle though.
Speaking of poker, I'm wondering if the turnout at the WSOP will be lower this year? The fad seems to be dying out, at least for me. I'll still watch every now and then, but I rarely play anymore.

Florida allows the dog tracks, horse tracks, and the Indian Reservation Casinos to offer poker, but under some fairly tight restrictions. And for a state that is so populous, we are talking about probably only 10-12 sites across the state. They all seem packed to me when I go and play. And now of course they are trying to get in on the deal with offering satellites into some of the big Hold 'Em WSOP or WPT events and that always gets them a nice crowd.
The tracks have single table tournaments of 11 players. The buy-in is $45, but the take-out from each entry is a ridiculous $13 -- almost a third!!!! At the Indian Casinos, they run 10 seater tournaments of $100 + $20, $200 + $25, $500 + $35, and $1000 + $50, so its a much better deal if you play more than once in a blue moon.
The Indian Casinos do run a lot of multi-table tournaments of anywhere from $50 on up to $1000 per entry. Tough to win those. |
