Prugh's Return Sparks Upbeat Day at Haslam Field
Houston Listed As Doubtful For Duke

KNOXVILLE (Oct. 30) -- Tennessee welcomed a familiar face back to the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center Thursday when Chuck Prugh made his first visit with his teammates since being sidelined more than a month ago by an acute illness.

Prugh visited the squad and met members of the media for the first time since his Sept. 26 hospitalization. The senior center was released from the hospital Oct. 17 and from a rehabilitation center Oct. 26 to continue his recovery from his Maryville home.

“We got a really big lift today with Chuck Prugh coming back out,” head coach Phillip Fulmer said. “He was in the team meeting and he and his mom and dad thanked the squad for their thoughts and prayers and that made it really special for us.”

Fulmer said Prugh is not quite ready to rejoin his teammates on the sidelines just yet but knows all the followers of UT football are keeping track of his recovery.

“All the Tennessee family was very, very supportive of Chuck during that time,” Fulmer said. “He said he had professors and students he didn’t even know sending him words of encouragement.”

The Vols, 5-2, wrapped up preparations for Duke and Saturday’s Homecoming tilt at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. Eastern time with VideoSeat providing the pay-per-view telecast.

“We’ve had a really, really good week of preparation,” Fulmer said. “I think a lot of the energy coming out of the Alabama game certainly made this a special week. The preparation has been really good by our football team and I do think it will carry over into the football game.

“This team has had flashes of being really good. It’s also been a great week because our defensive line, you finally see them getting better. And when you’re good there and in the offensive line, you have a chance to be successful week in and week out. I’m encouraged about where we are and very hopeful that that enthusiasm does carry over.”

Fulmer also reported that junior reserve offensive guard Guillaume Dumont has been accepted to Emory University Medical School in Atlanta. The St. Hubert, Quebec, native was an Academic All-SEC honoree for the Vols in 2002 and is expected to complete his UT undergraduate degree this year.

INJURY UPDATE (Duke Week): Doubtful -- TB Cedric Houston (ankle); Out -- DB Rashad Baker (knee), WR Bret Smith (thumb).
