Nashville Titans To Feature F-22 Flyover (Posted: Thursday, September 07, 2006)
NASHVILLE, TN, Sept. 7, 2006 The singing of the National Anthem preceding Sundays Titans-Jets game at LP Field will conclude with a flyover by four F-22A Raptor fighter jets, courtesy of the U.S. Air Forces 1st Fighter Wing, the Titans announced today.
The flyover will be the first of its kind by operational F-22s, the Air Forces newest fighter aircraft. Fans will see the planes overhead as Grammy-winning recording artist Aaron Neville completes the singing of The Star-Spangled Banner. Neville is a familiar voice to NFL audiences, having performed the anthem prior to Super Bowl XL in February.
Were honored that the 1st Fighter Wing has chosen the Titans and LP Field to host the first flyover by the F-22s. Titans Executive Vice President of Administration and Facilities Don MacLachlan said. We know Mr. Nevilles performance and the flyover add to our fans gameday experience and also serve as a reminder to all of us of the great sacrifice that so many men and women are making to defend our freedom.
The pregame festivities will be a part of the teams Sept. 11 anniversary tribute. During the anthem, a large, U.S.-shaped American flag will be unfurled by Nashville-area public service personnel.
1st Fighter Wing Commander General Burt Field and Clarksville, Tenn., native Capt. Clay Mag Percle of the 1st Fighter Wings 27th Fighter Squadron will be among several distinguished military guests at LP Field who will receive an honorary game ball from MacLachlan during the game. Percle will call the aircraft inbound for the flyover.
The Air Force began the integration of Raptors into its squadrons in 2005. The single-pilot, ultra-stealthy jet can be used for both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. It can carry a full complement of GPS-guided bombs and advanced medium range missiles. Supercruise technology also allows the jet to cruise at supersonic airspeeds without using afterburner by producing more engine thrust than any other current fighter.
As the host unit at Langley Air Force Base, Va., the 1st Fighter Wing operates and maintains one of the largest fighter bases in Air Combat Command. It has been involved in deployments and combat missions around the world, including Operation Desert Shield and Storm in the 1990s and more recently with Operation Iraqi Freedom.
