Kicker
Knoxville, Tn.
Farragut
HT: 6'0
WT: 165
Class: 2013

I thought I would make an official recruiting thread on King since there really wasn't one. King is probably going to be the #1 kicker in the state of TN for the 2013 class & has a good chance of being the #1 kicker in the nation.

IMO w/ Palardy & Darr not performing the way a lot of us thought they would I would not be against the coaching staff offering this kid a scholarship. We took Bullock last class as a KO specialist, he has also punted very well but I wouldn't care if we took King as stritcly a FG specialist.

We need to upgrade our kicking game, we have seen the past few seasons how much it can change a game.

I don't know if UT will offer. And it's a shame because King is very good.

But UT accepted a committment from Bullock last year so I don't know about getting King this next recruiting class. That would put like 4 or 5 kickers on UT's roster, and I'm not sure if it is smart to have 5 out of 85 scholarship players being kickers.

It would be four and it wouldn't be dumb at all. If you don't take one this year than you will be relying on a true freshman in 2014. JMO tho.

Yeah, you are right. It would just be four. Well I hope he gets a UT offer then. I guess Bullock is just being used for kickoff purposes? And Palardy & Darr have been disappointing thus far. It seems like a large number of kickers to have on roster, but we do need a kicker that can actually kick.

Do you think the numbers would work out to make taking a kicker possible. From what I have read we will be signing a relatively small class unless there is major attrition. Somewhere in the mid to upper teens? Not saying signing a kicker would be a wasted scholly, but surely the staff is going to be ultra selective this year. Is there any possibility of having him walk on for a year and then taking palardys scholly when he graduates?

This is no knock on your post so please dont take it that way, but a lot of posters on here get way to caught up on how many kids we can take each class.

Last year at this time a lot of people didn't think we could get close to taking 25 & if Santos & Peters had not flipped close to NSD we would have been almost right at 25.

It doesn't matter how many SR's we have, if Dooley wants to take 25 kids next class he will take 25. As always kids will transfer, get in trouble, & we may have a few leave early for the draft.

The best way to approach the # issue is always start at the #20 & work your way up.

You have no idea how many threads will get started or post asking what the #'s look like or how many we can take from now until NSD '13.

From what Dooley said yesterday in the AJC article a team can sign 25 every single class regardless of the 85 scholarship limit.

Jmoore is spot on. There is always attrition for any program. Numbers will not be a problem. Bama this year, case and point.

He loves Tennessee but won't end up a Vol due to the fact he wants early playing time and we just signed bullock.

Bullock would/should have no affect on King. Bullock is a KO specialist while King would be the FG specialist.

I hear that he is very good. But he will have to compete at the July kicking camp before they offer....just my guess on that

I dont take it as a knock at all. On the contrary, im glad you replied. When I dont know something or am confused, I ask someone more knowledgeable than myself. I do understand that every program has attrition and i do understand that we have a small senior class graduating. If you are telling me that those numbers will reconcile ill take you at your word. I would also like to say that even if this class were to end up being less than 20 strong, if this kid gets a scholly it means he earned it just like every other person we have on scholly. I have no problem with us signing another kicker. Of the many lessons we have learned over the past 5-6 years, the importance of special teams is right at the top.

In no way am I a Palardy fan, but in the back of my head I still hold a glimmer of hope for him. He hit that 52 yarder last year and I thought he put it all behind him; clearly I was wrong. My vote is cut Darr. Kid did absolutely nothing last year. I know it sucks having to let a kid go, but IMO it needs to be done.

This may sound harsh, but if they are not doing there job then I say pull the scholarship (if possible). The kicking game is a must improve over the next two years and if this kid is as good as advertised (haven't watched his film yet) then I say give it a go. We all know our kicking game is not good. They've been given plenty enough time to correct it, imo. Flame away if need be, but that's just how it looks to me right now. I'm always up for being shown wrong though.

He ran for a first down. Led the team in yards per carry.

WIth a new coach and a new start, I think that both Palady and Darr will be great this year. They both have the ability. Just need a solid practice routine (which they did not have last year) and they need a good year you will build up their confidence. Once you get to a certain skill level (and they are there), it is a 90% mental thing. They will be great!

"The most recent thing I've gotten was from the University of Oregon," King said. "After the Las Vegas camp, Chris Sailer, he actually recommended me to Oregon with two or three other guys.
"(Oregon special teams coach Tom Osborne) Emailed me to tell me they're going to offer one of the select few kickers."

Schools such as Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Missouri and Miami, which King said is mailing him virtually every week, Air Force recently, Oregon and FCS power Appalachian State are showing the most interest in the former multi-sport standout and one-time quarterback.

"I've gotten some hand-written letters from coach (Steve) Spurrier, and South Carolina has been showing the most interest, I would say, because I get about as much from them as I do UT, but it seems like they've been more personal and actually football-related and not just random information," said King, who's converted 55 of his first 56 PATs and put roughly 80 kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks.
