• Tennessee is in the midst of a 30-day span during which it will play four ACC opponents. The Vols are 1-0 vs. ACC teams so far, having beaten NC State.

• These programs met annually from 1945-68, and Georgia Tech was a member of the SEC from 1932-64.

• At 5-1, the Volunteers are off to their best start since the 2010-11 season, when they opened with seven straight wins.

• Improve UT's record vs. current members of the ACC to 108-98

• Make Tennessee 2-0 against ACC teams this season (with two more ACC foes on the schedule later this month).

• Give the Volunteers their second three-game win streak of the season.

GT plays a very slow style, Tennessee can’t get frustrated and force bad shots...GT will try their best to keep this game in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. If Tennessee can hit some perimeter shots early, and get a few transition buckets it will knock GT out of what they like to do.

I don't think it's a problem since TN attempts to shut down every possession all the way to the 30 second buzzer anyway. It might work in TN's favor if GA Tech is dribbling seconds off of the clock instead of attacking for the entire possession. TN will have more energy and be ready to push harder offensively after grabbing rebounds.

TN isn't likely to be getting frustrated sitting back in a zone waiting for action. They force the pace over the other team's entire possession and try to prevent teams from getting any good look.

On the other hand, regarding BTO's point on GA Tech's slow play...

How much harder is it to play shut down defense all the way to the 30-second buzzer on every possession when on the road? It helps at home when the crowd gets into it over those last 10-12 seconds. Will the home crowd counting down the shot clock have any motivating effect? Will TN be less effective during GA Tech's 50th or 60th possession?

I'm gonna guess that whatever Tech does the game will be much easier than a typical practice. If they want to play zone...let em...we got guys that will make them pay! My gut says we win this by 10+.

Off topic, but intersting topic - does anyone know the last time two Power5 opponents from the same conference have met before conference play actually begins?

Vegas, Sagarin, KenPom and teamrankings all have this game aroun 3.5-4.5 point Vols win...I hope the players aren’t expecting a blowout like many of our fans seem to be.

Georgia tech will play us very hard after their last embarrassing game.
