Watch the video and at the end Shoop says some good things about Bates. Mentions him with Austin Smith and says he has impressed a lot. Also mentioned that Bates was forced to play Nickle this spring and that helped him.

This is some good news for Bates. I hope he gets some playing time this and next year and enjoys his years at UT.

Man, I would love to see it for him. But, his production would be huge for our team in 17' too. I'm actually excited about our LB corp for 17', after that disaster last season. DK, McDowell, Bituli, Smith, Sapp, and even Jumper seems to be getting up to speed. If Bates, Blakely, and Berry can give + reps, then we could be shockingly good here. Hearing a lot of + comments about Shannon Reid coming in this spring as well.

Hope springs eternal.

Solon Page III and Ignont (especially Ignont) could definitely make some noise right off of the bat too. Solon Page got honorable mention on the Parade All-American team (Matt Butler was on first time) along with guys like Trey Smith, Najee Harris, Dylan Moses, etc. Ignont as we all know was good enough to play at IMG and from everything I think we've heard dude is a stud (already 6'2 and 230lbs too). Very excited about linebackers this year.

If anything this shows how Butch has neutered the media in terms of getting any info. Has anyone reported Bates at the Nickel or mentioned his name?

Bates inability to add bulk to his frame over the course of 3 plus years is unfortunate. Its not his fault because I'm sure he's doing his best but I truly believe his slight frame is whats holding him back. He's looked the same since the day he set foot on campus. Maybe Rock can finally get some weight on him.

Does Dillion Bates have true SEC LB talent, or is he more of a special teams project?

Finally. Hope that means he sees significant playing time this season. We're going to need him to step up big this season.

Agreed, rather see Bituli and the Freshman get the reps. It appears Bates has topped out as a 2nd/3rd team, Special teams guy.

Maybe he is a safety like his dad.
If Shoops been playing him at nickle, he has to have good speed.
