As a Tennessee fan, I simply am unable to watch Slimebaum. Some idiot made the decision about 3 or 4 years ago to carry his radio show here in K-Town, just before the SEC network deal. I don't think the show lasted but a couple months. I think the university should take back his degree.

I've always thought it was interesting, given his history (born in Memphis and a Tennessee alum) that he ended up in Birmingham hosting a show that was basically Iron Bowl discussion 24/7/365. You can't fault him for it - it was great for his career - but you'd think somebody with more of a natural affinity for that area would end up doing that.

I've heard lots of excuses all day. The best one is that the "Bear curse" has kicked in and Saban won't win anymore NC's at Alabama. I guess if Tiger Woods can fall of the map while at the top of his game, anything is possible. Not buying it, but on the other hand, I'm hoping it's true.

My favorite has been "the refs weren't on our side". There were bad calls and no calls both ways last night.

I am not sure how anyone can take Finebaum's show seriously when he allows the same clowns to call in and over and over. Most of them are incomprehensible due to the shouting into the phone and the lack of teeth. Its not sports talk, it's a sad attempt at comedy.

Do you seriously think in the state of Alabama especially during that period, you could find one person with the capacity to attain a bonafide journalism degree? Heck Tennessean males were bused in on weekends back then to help thin the Alabama gene pool out a little. It's worked some.

It doesn't take a journalism degree to host that show.

alabama football fans---just like kentucky basketball fans---when they lose big games, they blame everything on refs, injuries, bad luck, .... It never changes.

came down to the last play......and Dabo didn't play for the tie

True but the way he was managing the clock it looked like he would settle for the tie. Les Miles was smiling.:)

Additionally I truly believe he was thinking he had one pass play to win it or an incomplete pass and still have 1-2 seconds left for a field goal if necessary.

either way it worked out for him, congrats to them.

Agreed. I can think of a few helmet to helmets this year

Two within the NCG, itself.

1. Watson's on his butt, defenseless, when late-coming pass rusher lowers into him, impacting Watson's helmet/head, ringing his bell.

2. Williams is held in the grip of a Bama player, folded up like origami, when another Bama player lowers into him, impacting Williams' helmet/head, ringing his bell.

Both were textbook cases of targeting. To whit,

No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI)

Note 1: "Targeting" means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to:

  • Launch—a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
  • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
  • Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
  • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet

Note 2: Defenseless player (Rule 2-27-14):

  • A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.
  • A receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.
  • A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return.
  • A kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.
  • A player on the ground.
  • A player obviously out of the play.
  • A player who receives a blind-side block.
  • A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped.
  • A quarterback any time after a change of possession.
  • A ball carrier who has obviously given himself up and is sliding feet-first.

Chris Fowler was wrong in asserting otherwise (blowhard made so many mistakes, one rightfully might expect that he was hungover or still under the influence).

Saban has 18 side pieces, mostly strippers and porn stars?

Did you guys hear the guy who said he burned Finebaum's book and claimed he's going to quit watching the show because he gave Phyllis a hard time and was treating bama fans harshly after the loss?!

Another caller blamed the loss on the "pick" play.

Read an article by a bama writer who was now claiming the CFP was ruining college football. How convenient.

He argued the CFP had cost the sport several undefeated champions and it wasn't a fair system to the number 1 ranked team. also that it made the regular season meaningless, especially if expanded. again he argued if we went to 8 teams that 10-3 Wisconsin would be in there and would anybody accept a 3 loss champion?

you could practically roast marshmallows from the amount of butthurt coming from that article.

That article is 100%, complete, pure garbage.

He doesn't write a word of that if Alabama wins the game.

Not to mention that Bama's DBs hold the WR all the way down the field, no one else mugs WRs like that and get away with it.
