2016 Election Thread Part Deux

Kasich just stated that he expects a brokered convention and that he welcomes such a prospect, provided Trump is still in the lead.

I don't care who you are, the Republican National Convention this summer will be must-see TV. It's going to be the wildest thing we've ever watched in American politics. I expect there to be fist fights on the floor of the convention between rival factions.
I would agree. I used to love to watch the conventions back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I was enamored with JFK as a 10 year old when he was running.

My mother was a Democrat committee woman at the time. She had run for Mayor in the mid 50's, but got crushed by the local machine. You just think that politics is a dirty game now.

I have no idea where he was born, nor do I care. The only comments on the birth certificate that I have are two.

One: It has been proven to be a fake, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't born in Hawaii. If his mother was a U.S. citizen at the time, it is a moot point.
Two: I have a friend who was born in the same city, 5 weeks prior to Obama, and her birth certificate looks nothing like his. Her's is a black negative that looks very similar to my U.S. Birth Certificate, and his looks like an older Tenn. car title.

Hmmmmm...keep the faith brother

Has anyone ever considered that some of these things may be staged? Dirty tricks have been a part of politics for a very long time, and reality shows have proven again and again that people have no shame.
I wouldn't put it past the agitators to have set up the whole thing with the pepper sprayer. He could very well be one of them, because he had the can at the ready to spray. It may not have even been pepper spray. Even if it was, it may be worth it to them.

What do they call this? Karma? *****es.

"All four early appointees to the rules committee for this year's Republican National Convention" are "prepared to weaken or scrap" the rule "requiring a candidate to win a majority of delegates in eight states to be eligible for the party's nomination." If the rule stays, the only likely challenger to Trump at the RNC would be Ted Cruz.

The irony is not lost on any Ron Paul supporter. This rule was adopted at the last possible minute before the 2012 convention to gratuitously throw sand in the face of Dr. No, and also to Tea Partiers and grassroots supporters of Rick Santorum. The Mitt Romney-supporting party grandees were not worried about any actual challenge to the then-frontrunner's nomination—that was already wrapped up. No, they just didn't want any unseemly displays of non-Romney affection from the convention floor

Explain. I think that he was probably born in Hawaii, but the birth certificate is a fake. What is the problem?

Nothing to explain, I found it strange initially that you had to say Barrack Hussein. It's been 8 years since this crap started and it amazes me that people still pull this stupid $$$$. The birth certificate, Muslim comment was just me being a smarta$$ to your post.

I alwats found it strange out of all the Presidents we've ever had, as soon as a mixed race person gets elected everyone needs to see a birth certificate because he had a foreign father.

I was just stirring the pot a bit, because I was responding to someone talking about a Muslim running for the House, and Harry Reid told him not to do it. I guess Harry is an anti-Muslim bigot.

I still don't believe that Obama's birth certificate is real. It is either missing, or there is something on it that he doesn't want to see the light of day.

Ok I respect pot stirring. One of my favorite hobbies

The pro-life movement has always presented itself as one that believes in rehabilitation, not punishment. I'm not completely opposed to the practice of abortion myself, so I couldn't say if these are generally sincerely held beliefs or just the position taken to make it politically viable. From a legal standpoint, you're right - it would merit some sort of punishment, but moreso for the abortion provider than the woman. I'm not sure how such a proposed system would deal with back alley abortions, or how that would even be criminally proven.

What Trump said was the pro-life position taken to its logical extreme, but it's just not what most pro-lifers believe in my experience. They see the pregnant woman as a victim of an excruciatingly complex situation.

Thanks for the explanation. I was curious about the thought process to the actual initial exchange between Mathews and Trump outside the context of the typical Trump buffonery in mishandling anything of substance. I think you have an interesting take on the issue.

And the archived contemporaneous birth announcement in the newspaper? Someone knew 50 years ago he'd want to be POTUS. So they faked a birth announcement?

Get a grip.

It's going to be a circus for sure. The violence will be outside though and started by the left.

The left believe that if they create enough havoc over an agenda not of their own, they can force it to go away. Probably something learned as an unruly child; throw a temper tantrum - especially in a public environment - and the parent's go for appeasement. Why give up something that works just because they got older. Don't want Trump - no problem - just convince everyone that if he is elected there will be constant turmoil because we accept and never deal with bad behavior of progressive/liberals. Their demand for change comes from the streets - not the ballot box.

I will repeat what I said for you, since you obviously are deficient in reading comprehension. I think that he was probably born in Hawaii, but his birth certificate is a fake. The original is either missing, or there is something in it that he does not want to see the light of day.

Larry Sabato's 2016 electoral college model as of today.

I don't suppose you see the irony in that so few states control the destiny of the country, or that simple maps such as this one seem to portray tendencies as regional differences when they are in fact largely rural/urban in nature. Large cities have undue influence over the country, but they do it legally because they have the population. The sad fact is that they are highly liberal - dependent on government services for their welfare and wouldn't have a clue how to survive if it were up to themselves - pretty much the opposite of the people who forged this country - represented by the more rural areas.

His grandmother most positively states, for the record, that she was present at the time of her grandson Hussein Obama’s birth at the Coast Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya! So what is the truth? Who is lying? Barack? His grandmother? His sister?

Why did Barry spend $2 miilion to hide his birth certificate? Only make make public a forgery. I guess the pressure got to him to do something.

What is unbelievable is that we have such a Mickey Mouse system that candidates aren't formally vetted before the primaries even begin - that such questions would even need be considered during or after the election. Actual review of qualifying credentials by an agency such as the FBI - to include the full security clearance required of someone in a sensitive military position. It's absolutely beyond reason that the Commander in Chief could be less trustworthy than anyone in the military. At this point Hillary would almost certainly fail a security check.

So just to clarify, you're saying that Ted Cruz is not eligible to be POTUS, right?

Should be that both parents had to have been citizens and neither of them naturalized. That way anyone running for president would have come from from a family having at least a generation to absorb the essence, values, or whatever of this country - probably something that the founding fathers were trying to convey in the words of the time. The failure of immigrants to assimilate because of easy transportation, phone, and internet links back to the home country and family is a more recent problem. Also, the country of birth due to military or government assignment isn't important, but for others, possibly.

This interpretation goes a bit too far for me, if I'm understanding you correctly. Even Trump wouldn't be eligible under this one because his mother was naturalized. Sanders wouldn't be either.

I don't have a problem with the thought that you have to be born in this country, although I wish people would apply that standard across the board rather than use it for partisan potshots.

In trying to decide what "natural born" actually meant a few years ago, I began to realize that you cannot interpret words and deeds and customs of the past with today's language and custom. For example, you have to judge the actions of people in the past in the context of custom of the time. "Natural born" apparently implied closer ties to the country of origin than simple citizenship, and it was still probably somewhat nebulous and even difficult to put in words in the late 1700's without eliminating true patriots in a very new country.

I wouldn't have a problem with it eliminating Trump or Sanders or anyone else. You might even ask whether with another generation Sanders would consider socialism a reasonable concept or whether Obama would in Argentina have used the pick and choose what works for you comment regarding communism and capitalism.
