Only a matter of time - on demand, sites like hulu, Netflix, streaming video, etc are dooming the DVD brick and mortar business model.

CD stores already saw the writing on the wall.

I agree, although I think there will still be demand for vinyl and used CD stores.

Could bookstores be next? I hear those new Kindles are pretty cool.

Been wondering about those. Like to see if someone has one and their opinion of it.

Not surprising...

I haven't been inside of a Blockbuster or any other video store for that matter in 6 years...

You know....now that I think of it, I haven't done business with Blockbuster in at least 2 years. There might have been one in there that I'm forgetting.

When I was a young buck and the PS1 was new I was a weekly customer.

I've never seen a new one, but I've heard a lot from a buddy of mine who recently got one. He says it's very easy to use and navigate, right out of the box. Books only take about a minute and a half to download and there's a Oxford dictionary that will define any word you move the cursor over. You can purchase selections from your computer or the Kindle itself.

From the old ones I've seen, the electronic ink is vastly easier on the eyes than a back lit screen. If you've never seen an E-ink screen, it's like reading a book.

I read online that you can load your MP3s or .text documents on there as well. You can also share anything you download with any other Kindle listed on your Amazon account. The iPhone version apparently sucks because of downloading and font size issues, fyi. As PC World put it, "it's akin to placing a novel under a magnifying glass."

As far as downsides, my friend said the only thing he doesn't like is that images (specifically from a magazine he downloaded) do not translate well. I read online where text books and other academic works are nonexistent as of now, so keep that in mind if you'd buy it for that reason. Ohh yeah, and they're 400.00 bucks.

Just think how much easier it would have been to simply buy your college books through the Kindle and only have one "book" to keep up with. Also I read that Amazon permanently saves your already downloaded selections, so if you were to delete one on accident, you can download it again for no charge.

Here are a couple of pics of the Kindle 2 for anyone who hasn't seen it:
