Sounds like you might have gone to CCHS. Although the Ace of Base song was catchy, I liked Tesla's "Signs,Signs, Everywhere Signs" better. Now that it's been mentioned, I can't get " I saw the sign", by Ace of Base out of my head. BTW, who sang the original version of "Signs"? I don't think it was Tesla. Seems like it was Bob Dylan or someone similar,if there is someone similar to him. |

| It really is a damn shame that anybody would associate "Signs" with Tesla instead of the Five Man Electrical Band. If it's One Hit Hippy Wonder vs. Generic Hair Band, don't you have to just go with the original artist?
(And don't tell me you're too young to know the original. Every American man has had enough so-called classic rock pumped into his skull to know it, right?) |

To be honest with you, I have heard their version but have never known who sang it besides Tesla. This is the first time that I have ever heard their name and I am past the age of 30. |

What's a shame is that so many people apparently think of the Tesla version first. It's like somebody hearing "Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay" and thinking of it as a Michael Bolton song.
(Not to compare the immortal Otis Redding to a bunch of one-hit Canadian longhairs. At least much.) |

Okay, now I remember it but I had totally forgotten about Michael Bolton's version of that song. Otis is definetely the only person that comes to mind when I hear it played. What about Smokin in the boys room? I bet alot of folks think that Motley Crue came up with that one. |

| Exactly. Some covers transcend the originals to the point where it's not really the original artist's song anymore. Examples: with all due respect to Otis Redding again, "Respect" is an Aretha Franklin song now, and "All Along the Watchtower" quit being a Bob Dylan song as soon as Hendrix played it. "Signs" is not exactly the greatest song in the history of rock, but being covered by a mediocre hair band didn't really redefine it very much either. |

| "I will always love you" is another good example of a song originally sung by Dolly Parton but recognized by many as a Whitney Houston song. I can't help but remember the song " Life is a highway". I heard Rascal Flatts do it recently and I must say that Joe Cocker's version will always be my favorite. I bet we could name 100 of these if we tried. Oh well, I get your point.Ot looks like you and I are about the only ones still on VN this late. 6 oclock is going to come early in the morning and I will be asking myself all morning just exactly what I was thinking being on VN at 2 in the morning.

| Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" was originally done in 1967 by Tommy James and the Shondells.
"Shameless", originally done by Billy Joel, may be more associated with Garth Brooks. |
