| Switching to DirecTV tomorrow - Smart Move? My cable boxes keep screwing up - I'm on my 4th one in one room and my 3rd DVR in another room. When it goes out, I have to wait a week or so for a service call or stand in line down in crackville to exchange one in person.
I finally gave up and ordered DTV. I used to have it pre-HD and was very satisfied. Hoping the HD and SD look good on my plasma.
I'm also looking forward to having Sunday Ticket back again.
Any experiences?

| Love my DirecTV, hardly ever a problem, just when bad storms come through. Don't have HD, so can't help you there. You'll get the NFL network too, you may not have had it on cable. Use your interviewing technique and you might get some movie channels for free. |

| I made the switch about two weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I've already ordered my NFL Sunday Ticket. |

| I've been with DirecTV for about seven years with almost no problems. It takes some serious weather to cause a problem with the signal -- the kind of storm where you're too busy staring out the window wondering whether branches are going to fall to be worried much about the TV signal anyway. You'll love it.
Plus, when you go to a bar and want to get a game put on one of the TVs, you can just tell the guy the channel number you want instead of waiting for him to go look it up. |

| You will like it. Unlike "digital cable" all of your channels will be digital. |

| i love Directv. it's alot better than cable. i have had the sunday ticket for 4 years now, and honestly there is nothing better. i wish i could afford the college gameplan too, but that may be a stretch. i would never leave the house during the fall and winter on weekends. |

| I have directv too, and will endorse everybody else's rec. I wouldn't go back to cable if it were free.
That being said, I'm on my 3rd DVR, so I'm not sure it is a magic bullet for that problem. I think all DVRs might be prone to early deaths. |

| Actually, I used to have DTV pre-HD. I never had the weather problems (unless the T-storm cell was right over my house). I switched to cable because DTV was going to charge about $600 to go HD for existing customers at the time. My cable company did it free and gave me 1/2 off the bill for a year.
The concern I had was complaints that the signal is overcompressed and can appear "soft" on HD sets.

In the last 2 or 3 months, this has happened 3 times. I'm tired of it.
