I think conceptually, a lot of physics can be challenging. When I was a sophomore, electricity and magnetism kicked my butt. I think organic chem is hard simply due to all the memorization involved.
I thought the memorization what actually what made Orgo bearable.

good or bad memory, you could not blow off Orgo. I blew off much of my math and engineering stuff because once I understood it, no need to go further. If I understood it before starting, no need to even crack the book. I'm all about that kind of learnin'.

Confession time: I had intentions of going into Chemical Engineering when I started school. The last chapter or two of my second semester freshman chemistry class was a brief intro into organic chemistry.

I decided Mechanical Engineering sounded pretty good. I had already fulfilled all the chemistry requirements without taking a full semester of organic chemistry.

I was going to do computer engineering... then I realized all the programming it required. (YUCK!)

So now I have a BSME.

Wow, I am in that same boat right now.

I will say this for having a degree in ME. There is a lot of range in the types of jobs you can get.

Yup. You can design the little latches that hold up the tray on the back of an airplane seat... or you can be a project manager for a Mechanical Sub.

Okay, if I can just get through this speech today (and I mean that, just get through it) I will have a high B for the course. I love professors that drop low grades and double high ones, especially when it is a possibility that he will drop the highest weighted grade.

I actually found Biochemistry the most difficult class in both college and medical school. So much rote memorization and work that I knew would be quickly forgotten. I accept that the principles are important, but I think there are better ways to understand them, and better uses of students' mental energy and time.

I took a couple of physics classes and didn't think they were all that tough. Organic chem at UT has nearly a 50% failure rate and probably around half the students are taking it for the second time. It's the class that prevents most kids from going to med school. I'm not sure how it used to be, but that class has definitely earned its reputation in recent years.
