Need someones help

Im 16 and taking Driver's Ed. in High school...and this week it was my brother and I's turn to drive with an instructor and I am REALLY nervous about driving and today I almost got into a bit of a confrontation (I apologized) over parking. Now im just so nervous to drive it's unbearable....any advice?

Relax. You don't know what you're doing, even though you might think you do. Listen to the instructor, and do what he says, it's alot easier that day.

Once you get your license, you'll forget everything he said, and you won't remember it until you hit 30, get married, or have kids, whichever comes first. But he's not BS'ing you, just take it in stride you'll do fine.

When you feel like you are beginning to get nervous take some deep breaths. By that I mean breath in deep with your belly and exhale. That will calm you down.

As for the driving part be as courteous and polite as possible with your instructor. If you don't already, use Yes Sir and or Ma'am.

Go into the whole situation knowing your instructor already knows that you will be nervous. In fact, they are counting on it.

Just remember to be yourself.

The guy I drove with in drivers ed smoked his cigs while my friend and I were in the car, and fell asleep while we drove.


He got fired a few years later for having relations with a female drivers ed student.

Take some pain pills but not so many you fall asleep. Just kidding 895. Just relax and take your time. Getting in too big of a hurry will just make you more nervous.

my biggest problem when i first started driving was thinking i was over on the other side of the line. i'd always brace myself when i car passed.

the biggest thing that helped me out was driving with multiple "copilots". My driver's ed instructor was old, but he was cool with me at least. Turned out he knew my granddad ( a man I was never fortunate enough to meet), so we just always talked about him. Depending on how things worked, there were two different girls I always got paired with. One was uber nervous, the other was a speed demon. It calmed me down quite a bit just knowing I couldn't do any worse than them.

As for my other driving, my dad was cool when I first got my permit and started driving, but then flipped out when I got closer to 16. My mom flipped out no matter what I did, but one of my dad's coworkers took me driving a couple of times and told my parents they were crazy and that I was a good driver. Just practice man. I learned on a stick shift and I think that made all the difference in the world.

I wish I had a friend instead of my twin brother...the instructor hasn't got on to him so far.

It also seems that I just kind of forget some things b/c of trying my best to not screw something up. I think we are going into downtown Kingsport tomorrow and my greatest concern is the traffic lights(always worrying that the green will change to yellow then red right before I get there and run a red)
