Quantum of Solace.....new Bond movie...

AFP: New action-packed Bond film called 'Quantum of Solace'

Quote:
IVER HEATH, England (AFP) — The next James Bond film will be called "Quantum of Solace", and it will dazzle fans of Agent 007 with even more action scenes than its high-grossing predecessor, its producers said Thursday.
The title of the movie, directed by Marc Forster and until now provisionally called "Bond 22", was revealed at Pinewood Studios in Iver Heath, west of London, where filming is already underway.
Its stars -- including Daniel Craig, reprising his role as the celebrated British secret agent after his 2006 debut in "Casino Royale" -- posed for photographers under the new film's title.
"Quantum of Solace" was the name of a short story in Bond creator Ian Fleming's 1960 anthology "For Your Eyes Only".
"It's uncharacteristic of most of Fleming's work," producer Michael G. Wilson said of the short story.
"It's a character study that doesn't involve plots or anything with spies. We thought it was an intriguing title that references what's happening to Bond and what's happening to him in this film."
An original Fleming title was "really important to us", he said, adding that it was chosen just a few days ago.
Craig said the title was "meant to confuse a little. It's meant to make you sort of wonder."
"We want people to start thinking as they come and see the film."
He added, though: "But that doesn't mean that it is going to be a character-driven kitchen sink drama. We're making a Bond movie."
According to Craig, "There were plenty of those suggestions (for the title) for things that would look good on the poster but the last film took Bond to a new place and this is meant to do the same again."
"Casino Royale" -- the most lucrative of all Bond films, clearing more than 300 million dollars (200 million euros) at the box office worldwide -- depicted Bond at the start of his career.
The story in the new film begins just an hour after the last one ends.
"It's not a revenge movie," Bond series producer Barbara Broccoli said. "It's much more complicated than that. There's much more action and it also deals with the inner turmoil of Bond following 'Casino Royale'."
Wilson said it was always a challenge to come up with new ideas for Bond, but having Craig in mind when writing the plotline had helped.
"We made a decision to make them more real in the last film and that gives us something to go on," he said.
"There's much more action in this film compared to the last film. There's probably twice as much action sequences. It's pretty much jam-packed. Marc has brought a lot of humanity to the characters, which makes it a very intriguing story to go with the action."
Broccoli said Craig seemed happy to do further turns as Agent 007 in future.
Craig caused a sensation when he was filmed emerging from the sea in tight blue swimming trunks in "Casino Royale".
Asked whether the scene would be repeated, Broccoli joked: "I wish! I am still trying."
Judi Dench, in her sixth outing as M, the boss of Britain's overseas intelligence agency MI6, said cinemagoers would see her in a stand-off with Bond and their relationship would be "pretty prickly".
The forthcoming movie stars Ukrainian model and actress Olga Kurylenko as the new Bond girl, French actor Mathieu Amalric as the main villain and British newcomer Gemma Arterton, 21, as a fellow agent.
"Quantum of Solace" is set to be released later this year.
Thought?

Sounds good. Casino Royale was definitely better than the ones that had been coming out near the end of the Brosnan era. It'll be good to have alot of action. Royale had good action scenes but wasnt action packed. It had more poker in it than anything lol but it was a great movie.

Nice. Daniel Craig as James Bond was nice. He surprised me and mixed the badassness and quirky sly humor almost perfectly.

Roger Moore was too quirky of a Bond while, Timothy Dalton was way to damn serious as Bond. Pierce Brosnan and Craig are two of the best Bond's (depending upon how this film goes) besides the great Sean Connery.

I loved Goldeneye and The World is Not Enough but other than that, Pierce can stick it!

Where Brosnan lacked with the action parts he made up with the smooth lines with the Bond girls. He brought back Connery's "I can bang any woman within a 100 mile radius" Bond ways.

Brosnan had some of the parts for Bond, but to me at times he was merely Remington Steele.

Everyone has their favorite Bond. Connery's my guy. The others added at least a little something to the Bond mystique, but none were the original. The only one I never cared much for was Lazenby.

Have any of you read Fleming's Bond books? I think I will give them a whirl.

Very good, I have several.

I agree Connery is the standard and I would almost put Craig second but I will have to see his full body of work.

I did like Lazenby, OHMSS was a very good Bond movie but his biggest fault was not being Connery.

Moore brought the Saint image with him and although I love Moore's Bond the humor got the best of his movies.

Unlike most people I like Dalton. I like the edge and seriousness. Dalton's problem was not being able to have the humor flow as natural. It always seemed forced.

Brosnan had the misfortune of the going through the gadget and explosion phase of the Bond series.

Goldeneye was good and was The World is not Enough. Tomorrow Never Dies = Bond meets Terminator/or a bad Arnie movie.
I won't even bother to mention............. I mean come on! What a terrible Bond movie!

Good points.

The only thing I will say for Lazenby is that he did bag one of my favorite Bond girls in Diana Rigg.

Lazenby also enjoyed Bond's best ally in Draco.

Lazanby is also the only Bond to check out a playboy magazine.

I mean who else while breaking into a safe would stop and read a playboy? That is classic!
