Tragedy strikes Rick Burgess of Rick & Bubba Show

I know the Volnation is spread out everywhere across the country. A local radio show here in Birmingham is syndicated all across the United States, The Rick and Bubba show. They were also formerly carried on Turner South every morning.

Rick Burgess the founding member of the group has lost his youngest son in a freak accident. Bronner Burgess, two years old, drowned in the family pool Saturday night. While the other kids were watching a movie, young Bronner snuck out somehow. When they started looking for him, they found an open door, and then found young Bronner in the pool. He was transported to Children's Hospital but pronounced there. Rick was in Gatlinburg speaking at a Christian Weekend Student Conference. He flew home immediately on a private plane.

There will be a public Memorial Service at the Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, on Tuesday at 2 PM. On line memorials can be made at The Award Winning Rick and Bubba© Website.

Rick is very outspoken about his faith and I am sure that will help in this time. I too have buried a child and I can speak from experience that any prayers and support given to them will be appreciated. They are broadcast in Nashville as well as other cities across the south, so I figured some of you would be familiar with them. Thanks for your support.

Never heard of them, but I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose someone that young. My question would be how come the pool wasn't covered for the winter months? Definately sad though, my thoughts go out to them.

And sorry about your loss in losing a Child, did not know. :-(

This is really sad, I listen to them occasionally... two really good guys. They'll be in my prayers. And I'm very sorry about your loss as well.

Can't begin to speculate about the pool covering. A lot of people leave them uncovered, but with small kids you would think so. The other guys will be on the air in the morning and I am sure there will be more details. What we know is that the family came home. Mom and three boys I believe were ages 8, 6, and 2 came home. (Not certain on the exact ages but am close) They started watching a movie and mom went to take a shower. Mom comes back after shower and discovers the youngest one not in the room.

My daughter would be nine years old this may, and I will be honest, it doesn't get much easier as the years go by. You learn to cope, but it still hurts just as bad.

Sad story. Hopefully, this will serve as a reminder to us all that pools MUST have perimeter child-proof fencing and that exterior doors need child-safe deadbolts or latches that are high and out-of-reach.

I agree. This just happens too often for people not to realize the dangers. I know I've said it before but all the news stations in Phoenix would start to run their "fences around pools" stories in Feb/March. Without fail, a couple months later the tragic stories would start to show up of children falling in. I watched this happen for 6 straight summers and wish more would take it seriously.

Well I think alot of people don't do it because they don't think it will happen to them. We are too protective, we can handle it kind of thing.
