For those of you who would like to jump in here on starting an interesting thread, let us know your top five all-time favorite movies.

I guess I would start with For Love of the Game, Secondhand Lions, City of Angels, Pure Country, and Multiplicity.

Comments welcome as to why.

I know the subtitle says top three, but since I couldn't narrow it down I moved the magic number to five!

I promise I'm not making fun of you Surrealvol, but you have to explain Pure Country to me.

Hey, GAVol:

I just liked the fact that a big time star (Even in the movies) would cut out for awhile and ride some horses with a beautiful lady!

The Jerk - a true classic.

I literally get tears in my eyes when I think of Steve Martin singing, "I'm picking out a thermos for yoooouuuuu - Not an ordinary thermos for yooouuuu . . . "

Classics for the common folk.

Is there anything more pretentious than the people who do a list like this and put things like Citizen Kane, Gone With the Wind etc? I mean, how can you compare a movie like that to a great cinematic effort like Animal House?

When I watch a movie, I want to be entertained; not challenged.

I agree. Fletch lives and Christmas Vacation are two of my favorites also.

I watched the Last Samauri today and thought it was pretty good.

The Vacation series is another one I should have listed. The original Vacation had about as many high spots as any movie I can think of . . . the Family Truckster, the inbred cousins, Aunt Edna who dies and ends up strapped to the roof of the car to save time, the dog who pees on the family's lunch only to later be accidentally left hooked to the bumper of the car when they leave, etc, etc.

oh yeah . . . I forgot the whole dork courtship of Christie Brinkley.

The submarine they used for Red October is here in Portland. I have been on it, it's pretty neat. Real cramped, though.

My favorite movies...

Scarface
Sands of Iwo Jima
To Kill A Mockingbird
Dirty Harry
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
Godfather parts I and II
