| Agree HB. One of the dumbest things I've read in a while. Can understand the company putting it into the company policy but not actually making it a fireable offense.

instead of firing him........ ?

| That's why I don't shop at home depot or lowes. Stupid company policies like this... I work at a small true value hardware store... well, it's larger than most small stores. Anyways, we have our own dumb policies but nothing that you can actually get fired over. We are, however, told not to persue someone if they've left the store with merch.
I also don't like how you can't find service, friendly or otherwise, at the big box stores. I'm always around to help customers because they come first. That's why we've been rated the #1 Quad Cities favorite store for however the poll has been running. Hell, we're in the QC Reader Hall of Fame for customer service.
Moral here? Don't be a dumbass and work for idiots. |

| It's a big, big, big law suit deal. Almost every large retail chain of any sort has those kinds of rules to help protect against the possibility of law suits.

| Sets a bad example. I know at Best Buy, it's complete no tolerance on that one. A general manager in training around here got fired for it a couple years back.

| LCD screens are retardedly expensive to replace -- Usually in the $600 range for laptops. And they're not covered by manufacturer warranty. If you got the accidental service plan, and it's still good, then you're covered for eitheir a paid repair or a new laptop (which will void the service plan from there on out).
Decent laptops go in the $800-900 range nowadays. Our three year accidental service plans on those guys usually go around $300. But it also covers you for one free replacement battery during the life of the plan, and those suckers are around $200 a pop. 2GB DDR2 memory, 200GB hard drive, decent graphics card, etc. I like Toshibas and HP's.

| Call up the Knoxville store tomorrow to find out if the service plan is still active. If not... Time for a new laptop.

| I know, Best Buy's phone service sucks. They actually created a new position where there will be a couple jobs just for people answering the phones. Should get fired up in about 3 weeks or so.

Depends on the laptop and what screen it is. I picked one up for about 100 or so, I think for a 4-5 yr old laptop..however, the thing had larger problems and it is sitting non-operational..needs a hd and maybe more...seemed it got really hot. |
