Pet Economy - How much do you spend?

Check out this story in BusinessWeek about how much we spend on our pets.

The Pet Economy

How about this factoid:

Quote:
Americans now spend $41 billion a year on their pets—more than the gross domestic product of all but 64 countries in the world.
Quote:
That puts the yearly cost of buying, feeding, and caring for pets in excess of what Americans spend on the movies ($10.8 billion), playing video games ($11.6 billion), and listening to recorded music ($10.6 billion) combined.

I have spent a ton on my dogs in the past. Never thought I would be one of those people. But I am.

A $10 bag of dog food every week or two and some bones/treats about once or twice a month and that is it. Not too bad.

I'd spend $500 to kill all the idiots near my apt who walk their dogs either without leashes or with 6 ft leashes. Too many dog owners have zero respect for others.

I had a friend and his wife who left a new years party in vegas well before midnight (they brought the dog to vegas) because they needed to give him his medicine. It's a dog. People need some friggin perspective.

You were speaking of "some friggin perspective"?

I admit it's a pet peeve of mine (no pun intended). But some of us a) are allergic to your friggin pet (and don't particurally want to be itching all night) and b) don't believe you when you tell us it "would never bite anyone."

Let's see. I usually spend about $15 each week for Chinese food....does that count?

10% of the population is allergic to dogs. 1/10 people should have to stay inside just because you are too lazy/inconsiderate to put your dog on a leash?

No, they should die. But staying inside is good enough.
