| My boy loves to throw my cans away. And then fetch one from the fridge. He also grabs my "Rocky Top" bottle opener.
Yeah, I'm 28, but alot of folks say I am beyond my age. I would have to agree since it takes a wise drinker to covet the black liquidation as I clearly do.
I will look around, tickets are cheap, maybe we can meet before for dinner and then head over for the game.
My son's name is Peyton, so I want him to at least see one series of the man at QB.

| Boddington's was the one I was able to pull out of the group fairly confidently, but you'd be surprised at how much the supposed "creamy head" just doesn't exist if you can't see it. I really would have wagered everything that I could tell the difference between a Bass and a Budweiser, but once there was a blindfold and other beers in play, it was really amazing how the differences just melted away.
The manager who gave me the test said I did better than anybody he'd ever seen -- which meant that I identified maybe 6 of the 9 or 10 beers correctly. Most people, he said, can't even get the Guinness right. Some can't even pick out the cider. It's amazing how, deprived of the visual and brand clues, the differences just melted away.
This was, of course, before the ascension of the Great American Pound You In The Ass IPA beer, which is my favorite style, and which I'm confident that I could pick out of an array of other beverages as easily as I could cider or Guinness. But hey, maybe not. I'm a huge beer snob, but I've never forgotten that test. |

| You didn't answer my question about Harp Lager
The Bass vs Bud test is interesting, I look back at the two and can't imagine how you couldn't tell the difference.
They are leaps and bounds different vissually. I would have to drink some and familiarize the palate to get confident.

| Manning's not likely to play here though, right? What with the injury and all. It would still be cool to meet you for food/beers, and I'd still enjoy the game, but I do think you're staring at at the majesty of Jim Sorgi for the actual game.

| On a side note, I too have the leap frog, "G" says Ga, G says Ga, every letter makes a sound, "G" says Ga. for my fridge.

| Harp is popular in Ireland; you see people drinking it everywhere. Also Smithwick's (Pronounced "Smith-icks," without the W -- if you order it with the W, the bartender assumes you're an idiot. Even here.) -- the first time we went to Ireland, the frau wasn't on the pints yet, and she drank Smithwick's the whole time. Apparently it's pretty good. I don't think that either of them were a "Guinness response" to anything as much as they were the Guinness corporate masters (which don't have much to do with Guinness anymore, sadly) just assimilating all the Irish beer they could and then exporting it as well as they could market it.
I got the Bass right, eventually. I would've sworn that it would take two seconds, but it was an amazingly tedious and stressful process. I had been drinking some beforehand, of course, but not (I don't think) enough to ruin the test. The manager's premise still held: that there is nowhere as much difference between these beers as you think there is.
And once the blindfold was off, of course, then suddenly all the beers started tasting completely different again. I was and remain a giant beer snob, but that 1999-era test remains a kick right square in the nuts. There's not as much difference as I think there is. |

| My boy loves the pint fridge. "Daddy's home with a new Big Beer!" New Keg Day is almost as fun for him as me, and he doesn't even get to drink any of it. Our regular fridge is devoid of the EVERY LETTER MAKES A SOUND stuff, but the kegerator just sprouts with it. We were at a party over the 4th, and he was begging a friend of ours to come back to our house because "we have lots of pints at my house." As I said, I'm doomed.
Manning had some sort of minor joint surgery this week which is going to cause him to miss most of the preseason. At his age, it may be just an excuse -- there is probably no player in the league who needs preseason less than Peyton Manning -- but I wouldn't expect him to play here in mid-August. It will make tickets cheaper though, won't it? |

| SOaB. Looking at tickets on ebay, they are cheap. This throws a wrench in my plans.
They played last year or the year before in Atlanta. This sucks.

| It doesn't suck THAT much. Manning is what, 32? And has never missed a series, much less a game? Barring catastrophic injury, he'll play for another half-dozen years at least. Which will certainly include trips back down here in the south. Jacksonville, Charlotte, New Orleans, Tampa, Nashville, Atlanta. There will be other opportunities.
Plus, there's this: you take your three-year-old to see his namesake, and he doesn't remember anything about it. Take a six-year-old, and it's one of the biggest memories of his life. |

| True, true. I am still going to look. I found some on the lower level for a low buy it now. Gotta check with the wife in the morning.

| Done. Done. Four AM, and the pints have got the best of me. Doesn't the real Vercingetorix look like he needs to pass out for awhile too?
(Gotta work on my mustache, apparently.) |
