Anyone play? I've never played one but I'm wanting to learn.

What would be a good one for a beginner?

Edit: Dear Lord! The prices on bows.

Funny, I have been thinking the same. Got a mandolin a few years back and it hasn't really held my attention.

I'd like to try a mandolin also. Matter of fact, now that you mentioned mandolin, I got my instrumens confused in my OP. A and F are mandolins. Gotta correct that right now.

I like how fiddle players always (almost always) do the those strokes at the beginning (counting in?) that sounds like they are getting the fiddle started.

Try the dulcimer. You can get a good one for less than $400 and teach yourself how to play pretty easily.

If you're in east TN, a stop at Wood-N-Strings in Townsend is worthwhile.

Here's some mountain dulcimer for ya (not me):

A lot of sound for 3 strings. He definitely knows his biz.

One nice thing about instruments is once you own one, the cost of the hobby is quite low (compared to other ones). Unless you are paying for lessons and the like.

I've been teaching myself the banjo on and off for the past couple years. It's a lot of fun to play.
