Engagement Ring Shopping Help

I just graduated from UT in May and have been with my girlfriend for four and a half years. She graduates next May, and it's time that we went engagement ring shopping. I need some advice regarding places in the knoxville area to go to and what I should be looking for in a diamond. I have a budget of about $3000 (with some flexibilty if it's something she really wants). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

get the best clarity, and color you can afford

Take out a payday loan for as much as they will let you for a down payment on a ring. You should be able to afford the monthly payments

Can't tell you where in Knoxville, but don't limit yourself to just the stores. Kevin wanted my help to know what I wanted and I began looking everywhere. Actually did not care for the ones in store as they were to gaudy and too much for my taste. We actually found mine at an estate sale, appraised for almost 4 times the amount we paid for it.

Just don't go overboard. If you spoil them early there is no room for improvement.

Honest advice here:

Color, cut, and clarity should be focused on far more than size.

I purchased a "flawless" "d" "perfect cut" & it was the best investment I ever made. She cannot replace the stone I selected and the fact that I chose a 1 caret instead of a 2 meant nothing to her. We had it appraised a year ago when she was thinking of making changes to the setting. It was then whe she was face to face with the gemologist that she realized how rare her ring was. He basically refused to work on it telling her, "we don't work on stones like this, you need to leave it alone."

You'll pay the same or more given those ratings as you would for a larger caret size, but it'll be worth it.

I have one, but it's pricey. Appraised at 12,100. Get what you can afford with good cut, color and clarity. If you're curious, here's a pic of the rock...

Congrats. Just got engaged in the last 6 months. Exciting time of your life.

It's smart that you've saved up for it. Just know what she likes and go get it.

I got engaged a few weeks ago as well. Best of luck to you. It only gets better from there. Everyday is exciting.
