| Question for those serving/served in military Please let me start with my thanks! Regardless of where you are, or what you're doing, it's a bigger sacrifice than I have ever made, and you have my sincerest respect. Thank you!!
So, my step-son leaves at the end of next month for boot-camp. Then he'll be in training for 18 weeks in Texas. Not sure where he'll be after that. He's 26 and his wife is 25.
What I'd like to ask you is, what are some things someone did for you while you were serving that meant a lot? I guess he'll let us know about cards and letters and care packages and that kind of thing. He isn't the type of person who will say "I wish I had this". He won't ask anything of anyone (he is his father's son). So I thought if I ask those of you who have been there, I might gain some insight?
Also, his wife. She is very supportive of him. And she is getting involved as much as she can with groups that support her role in this. Is there anything you could offer to me that would benefit her?
I love them both so much. I am so proud to be his "mom".
Thank you for anything you suggest. And thank you again for your service.

| Frequent sexting.
And just for clarification... this would be from the wifey and not the "mom". |

| Back to business. What are we allowed to send and not send to them? I'm guessing they can't get anything at all while in bootcamp? I'm sure he'll let us know some of this stuff, but I figured there were enough people here I might get some info.

| Gotta be careful, back when I went there were extra push-ups or other tough exercises for each letter, card or care package. Really depends on the individual. Some value pictures, food, letters/card and the "punishment" is worth it. Others just want to get through it and don't want extra hassle.
Biggest problem is sleep deprivation and exposure to the elements. |

| A little off subject, but if he likes sunglasses, tell him to look into Oakley Standard Issue.
Its Oakley's program to sell to military, police, fire, et al. Good sunglasses (and shirts and other stuff as well) for about half off if he's into them. Really, the clothes are worth signing up for, even if you skip glasses. Get a decent polo for about 17 bucks.
Mild perk for joining up. I found it through a DOE security deal, but I know plenty of service guys that have enjoyed it.

Apologies VG if my post offended you. |
