| Volley,
Just sent my daughter off to report to her first duty station so I understand what you are going through.
He will be fine, the Army takes great care of its soldiers. The training he will be getting is the best in the world, especially the medical training. Medics are especially valuable to those around them and they watch out for them. Worry later, the next year will be good for him. |

So he can get letters during basic training, and cookies and stuff during his 18 week training?
Sorry I'm so dense about all this. I'm so scared. I don't do scared very well. | Yes. AF more inclined to call it basic training. Army and Marines refer it as boot camp.

None of that type of stuff will work for Basic though. Back when I went, it was just certain cough drops and any specific toiletries you absolutely needed other than letters and pictures. My Drill SGT knew that I was a big football fan so he always looked the other way on Thursdays when I'd get Mondays review of the 2009 season from my best friend. He'd include the GoVols XTra stuff and his own writeup. He was a big Texas fan. Quote:

| Whatever you do, don't send him candy or news clips from home while in basic. Both are contraband and he'll get punished for even getting them. Stick to letters from home for those 18 weeks, it's the best option. |
