And I don't know if she was or not. She was probably raised that way by sorry excuses for parents. What I'm saying is the pieces of trash who wear or raise that flag simply because they think it references a time of slavery are stupid.
I have no problem with someone wearing a shirt with that image. who cares. Its no different than someone wearing an image of the Japanese flag, Cuban Flag, British flag, etc. US has been involved in war with each of them.

| I'm interested in knowing if students are indeed allowed to wear rebel T-shirts to school, as the girl says? If so, maybe she has a legitimate gripe with school policy. If not, she's after attention.

The conscious decision to keep that particular flag in the forefront in my opinion may not be racist but its very very offensive. | Generations ago a red, white, and blue rebel flag was born during a bloody conflict for white freedom against an oppressive government.
This flag was also the standard of a nation that supported the horrible institution of slavery.
Am I talking about the American flag, or the Confederate flag? |

People like me who appreciated the confederacy for their stance against an invasive central government were disenfranchised, and shamed. If you wanted to be respected in society, you needed to turn your back on the defeated confederacy. This ensured racist trash like the members of the KKK were the only ones pimpin' the flag.
The American flag represents big government, now. It no longer represents what it represented 200 years ago. That's why I wish the Confederate flag wasn't taboo. |

I don't wear anything that has a nation's flag on it at all.
And I do understand why people get offended. Because they are ignorant to history. They choose to be offended over something they don't fully understand.
Which flag was flying over the capitol building when slavery began in the US?

| She should have been kicked out because I'm sure that dress was absolutely hideous.

I'd be willing to bet money you have decorations in your house or symbols on your clothes , etc that have sick origins. You just don't realize it.
The rebel flag became a "symbol" of slavery in large part due to so called Civil Rights activists like X, Sharpton and Jackson who thrive(d) on Racial Propaganda.
Racism would die if people would stop making non-racist events into a civil rights issue.

Racism would die if people would stop making non-racist events into a civil rights issue. | People are offended because for years that flag has been associated with white power terrorists. I'm not offended because of slavery or the Civil War. Hell I'm from the south too. I understand the heritage of it. I do. But to act like that flag isn't a sign of something more to some people is stupid. And I realize that yes they used the American flag too. And you are probably right. I imagine I have been inadvertently offensive to some group through my own ignorance. |

If not, she's after attention. | We went through this when I was in high school. I went to Byrnes HS in Duncan, SC & our mascot was the rebels. For years they had a rebel mascot similar to the old ole Miss one & I think the flag flew on top of the school years earlier. Not sure what got it all started but people suddenly started getting suspended for wearing anything with a rebel flag or if their car had any sort of confederate flag emblem. It was a mess. The kkk was outside handing out their literature. People were walking out in protest. Anyway, we ended up voting on a new mascot even though we're still the Rebels & people were allowed to wear whatever they wanted. |
