I also work night shift when not on 12 hour shifts. I work in a very high stress no fail position and am so to say beyond stressed at this point.
My problem is that 5 college dudes moved into the house next door and I have been trying to put up with 2 barking dogs for months while I am trying to get precious sleep. I am not aware if they even know their dogs are barking all the time. I think they just leave them outside while they are gone during the day. I am too tired to even get out of bed to investigate and if I do get out of bed I won't be able to get any useful rest anyhow. So I just mutter profanity and try to do the pillow of the head move to try and muffle the barking. But that never works. Heck, I don't even see the neighbors at all with the hours I am working.
I know I could try and talk to them face to face if I ever saw them, but I think my tone and attitude at this moment may not be very nice and would offend or fall on deaf ears. The last thing I need is to open a can of worms to have 5 douchebags make intentional noise to continue to push my buttons. I also could write a letter. But, who knows if they will take that seriously.
I could also try some sort of cheap looking, over priced, electronic device that might or might not even work. My questions with these are do they work? Do they pick up just barking or do they also pick up road noise. I don't want to hurt the dogs, but I also live on a very busy road with a lot of traffic noise. So I would not want the device constantly emitting anti bark noise if the dog is not barking, if that makes sense. Ultimately, I am looking for a quick and easy solution to get precious silence. I don't have time to hold hands or try to convince someone that if they don't shut their dog up I might go postal. I want to be the good neighbor.
Any of you have any helpful suggestions, before I lose it? | from your description of 5 college dudes...Their probably renting, so depending on how the conversation goes with them, you could always talk to their landlord as well
good luck |

My suggestion is buy a noise machine. I use to work nights and sleep during the day. I could never sleep because of people cutting grass and cars going by. Dogs too , but nothing that bad. Anyway it makes sounds like wind blowing ( really sounds like low static on the tv just not as annoying). I got use to it pretty quick and can't sleep without it now. I know telling them won't do much good and may lead to an argument or worse. If it gets really bad , call the police and ask them what your options are. If you have none , you could always walk over and open the gate and let them out lol. JK | I don't want to hurt the dogs, I just don't want them to make any type of noise. I am not a cruel hateful sort. |

good luck | One of the 5 kids had the house purchased for him by mommy and daddy. At least that is the only logical explanation I can come up with for him to be able to buy a nice place like that. I don't know their names or what they look like. I just hear dogs barking and one day I had to listen to techno all afternoon while I was trying to sleep.
I just want to avoid confrontation in protection of my property with not being there except to basically sleep. I don't want problems and I don't think cops would appreciate me bothering them over dogs barking when they probably have more important things to do. But if it comes to that to retain what little sanity I have left than I do have that option. |

Go over there, shake their hand and explain the situation. |

Chances are that they will apologize and try to fix it. However, if they're douches or uppity about it, I say call the landlord or cops next time you're disturbed. |

| Don't do anything to hurt the dogs. Use Jackson's gun to shoot the humans, start in their limbs. They are to blame for not having trained their dogs. If dogs feel secure they have alphas taking care of them, they don't have the need to bark. |

| Dude I feel your pain. I am an air traffic controller, Air Force retired working as a civilian for the AF. I am a shift worker at a 24 hr facility. I have lived next door to two yappers (a weinmaraner and a straight up Heinz 57, not bad dogs but they bark at me every time I go in my backyard) for the last three years. I have confronted the owners (a teacher and aircraft mechanic) called them, texted them nicely for the most part on several occasions but little effort on their part was the result. I resorted to purchasing one of the electronic devices (low end $12 variety), it failed miserably. I finally went to ear plugs, and sleeping with a box fan on to drown out the noise...when I am exhausted it works. Now I refer to the neighbors as the douche' bags next door and due to the fact he works a 3pm-11pm M-F shift I mow on Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. when my work schedule permits. I usually leave the lawn mower running at the fence next to his bedroom for an extended time...not sure if he hears it but during the "mowing season" it sure as hell makes me feel better |

| Best plan is to stop the noise from getting to you. I guarantee if you:
1. Put tin foil and duck tape over every window.
2. Install a plethora of antennae on your roof.
3. Openly carry fire arms around your home.
4. Maybe install a couple of Llamas in the back yard. They are quiet and will spit on the dogs.
5. Consider butchering animals in the back yard.
6. Play "Helter Skelter" often and loud.
7. Make sure there are lots of ammo crates visible from the neighbors house, maybe put some empty ammo boxes in the garbage.
8. Put up warning signs that say "I work nights, any noise during the day will make me angry!"
they will move and you will get your peace and quiet back.
(otherwise, I recommend the wax earplugs that seal the outer ear, heavy curtains and wooden blinds to block light and noise, and Yard Sentinel DUAL - Dog Silencer & Animal Pest Repeller) |

I almost ran over the weimaraner when I came home last night. The bastards let him go outside to roam the neighborhood in search of dumping grounds. I watched as the dog took a nice dump on this old lady's lawn across from their house. That alone makes me angry. If I were to step in dog crap that was not from my dog than I would get very upset. Have some respect for your neighbors.
The funny thing is he kept poking his head around the bushes waiting for me to go inside as if he was afraid of me. I tried to call him over to me so he could sniff me, but he waited until I went inside before he scampered back to his house. Crap on my lawn and his owners will wonder how fido could manage to lay a dump on their windshield.
But seriously, I don't want to start a war, just want them to show some respect. |
