| Farmer Gets Jail for Shooting His Own Dog From the what is this world coming to files, a local farmer decided he needed to put his dog down because the dog had been attacking his neighbors pets. Apparently he wasn't a very good shot and the animal survived but had to be euthanized anyway. Now he is going to jail for a year. Atticus Finch didn't go to jail when he shot the dog in "To Kill a Mockingbird" why are we locking up a farmer for handling his responsibilities (albeit poorly)? | Well, the article kind of skirts over the issue that he is a convicted felon who happened to be in possession of a firearm. |

| Seems to fit the elements for animal cruelty. Justice is served.
Public policy is served. We don't want incompetents trying to put down animals and cause unnessasary pain to the animal. |

To kill a mockingbird was a book, not case law.
