| | You huge girl!! | The Computer Geek Thread.... We don't have a "true" techie forum here, so I figured I would start a thread for it, and if it's already posted, oh well.
Lately, I've been really researching SSD drives, and Intel in particular. I've sold several of these drives, and if your looking to increase an older system (3-5 years) this is the ticket. Also, if someone tells you that SSD aren't as reliable, they are wrong. Intel SSD drives fail at a rate of around .25% of all drives shipped. Mechanical hard drives fall at a rate of 1.9% of all drives shipped.
Who's next??

| | smh | Who has been contending that SSD drives are less reliable? I thought it was common knowledge that they are.
However, at the time, they are immensely more expensive than optical drives. IMO SSD is still best used as a quick-access drive to supplement a few gigs worth of normal drives. |

Plus, you can just turn your mechanical drive into a storage drive. I've got a 990 Optiplex coming for a client, and it's going to have a Intel 320 120GB, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, 8GB DDR3, and a 500GB HD. It's going to be a beast.

| building a cheap video editing rig for my son
AMD FX-4100 quad core (Bulldozer), mATX motherboard, 8 gigs (2x4) DDR3 1333, 160gb Seagate HDD and Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
HDD prices are still through the roof due to the flooding in Thailand. I considered a 60gb Intel SSD drive, but my budget (under $400 including OS) wouldn't allow for it. |

| I just built a new gaming pc back in November, and I did tons of research on SSDs.
I ended up going with a 120gb OCZ Solid 3, which I paid $114 for, so it wasn't too bad of a deal. The biggest thing for me was reliability.
OCZ was kind of notorious for their SSD's, having major firmware issues that caused BSOD among other errors. They released some new firmware about 3-4 weeks before I purchased, and I read up on the results people were having. Luckily, it seemed to fix all problems. I haven't had an issue with mine, and I've had it since November 1st.

I have a mechanical drive in my rig right now, but when I can afford it, I'm going with an Intel 320 120GB.

| | You huge girl!! | Took a Dell 990 Optiplex and put a Intel 320 120GB SSD drive in it yesterday, and turned the mechanical drive into a backup and storage drive. From Window 7 Pro 32-bit install, until the last MS Office update was installed, it took 1 hour and 2 minutes to finish it all. The computer was a 2nd gen i3 with 4GB of RAM.
