I would have just responded by asking why cars have to drive on the road since paved roads were originally built for bicycles before cars were mass produced.

On some roads large group rides and traffic simply don't mix. But sometimes the driver is simply reluctant to pass, even though he or she could safely do so.

Don't think you're going to convert many with that argument. At least not anyone under the age of 110.

Stopped to get gas at the station. There were two mountain bikes parked by the door. A minute later, not two, but three people emerge--two riders, with one carrying a toddler in a back carrier.

I'm not sure about the safety of riding around on the roads with a youngster on your back. But they did have a helmet on the tot. So I guess if the kid fell out the right way and landed on its head, at least that much would be protected.

On the topic of a**hole drivers. I was riding about a week or two ago and a huge semi towtruck type vehicle was traveling at about 60-65 heading at my brother and I who were cruising just over 25 or so. The driver decided to lay on his horn and pretend to swerve at us just as he got even with us. I was less then a split second from a serious serious wreck. I never have understood people like that and their ignorance.

A rogue towtruck driver? Don't see that much.

Went out on a date with an ex of mine tonight. She mentioned something about me losing weight since she last saw me. Hell yeah, cycling. It was a rather awkward date, though...

Thats dumb. I tow my kid around in trailer through the subdivision but would never go on main roads even with a rear carrier.

Yes, it is absolutely beautiful riding. I would suggest looking into the horsey hundred race that takes place up around Lexington.

I've looked at that before. I should have done it when one of my friends lived up there.
