It will be an interesting rebuilding year. The PG position could be sketchy--two players who haven't played and both with knee issues, especially Bass.

I love the fact that even in our "rebuilding" years we still put more talent on the court than anybody else. With UCONN not piggybacking off of our success, I expect to see their program continue to slip. A couple of early exits in the Tournament and no high profile games against UT are going to be harder on UCONN than they expect.

Pat has signed 8 McDonalds AA in the last 2 yrs, so there will be a lot of talent but it will be a very young team.

ESPN has us #8 in their look at 2008-2009 season:

8. Tennessee: It's the dawn of a new day in Knoxville, Tenn. But if any coach can transition from veterans to freshmen after a national championship, it's Pat Summitt.
8. Tennessee In many ways, it's back to the drawing board for the Lady Vols. The entire starting lineup from this season's national championship team departs and no program, even Tennessee, just replaces Candace Parker. However, the coach remains the same. And while Pat Summitt will tell you players win and lose games, she isn't the all-time winningest coach in college basketbal history by accident. This team will be young and won't be big-game tested, but Summitt has amassed what most believe is the country's best recruiting class.
UConn will probably be #1 all season since they return top scorers and bring in a nice recruiting class.

Many of the top teams lost key players; TN, LSU, Stanford, Maryland, UNC, etc... So the freshmen will have to step in right away and play.

uconn may slip-but it won't be this year: they've got too much talent. I don't know if they'll win the national title--I damn sure hope not--but they'll be the favorite. If Bass's knees are a problem, PG will be a real issue for the Vols against the better teams. McMahon is tough-minded but completely untested and not exactly the most athletic guard around, so Bass or somebody else will have to get minutes at that spot. It won't be Smallbone, either, because she lacks athleticism.
