Really? He waved the Constitution around and then quoted ....the Declaration. And clearly did not know the difference.

If a staffer wrote those remarks, you know they'd be fired. But he didn't know the difference, which is flat out alarming.

as opposed to just flat our ignoring the Constitution as the current administration seems to do quite often

Boehner was at a rally with a bunch of Republican congressional people railing against health care. Had a bunch of tea party types gathered in Washington for it.

So he pulls out a copy of the Constitution and says its his personal copy, waves it around, and in it he says it says in the preamble "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal ...."

Which is in the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution.

Truly embarrassing. I cringed just watching it. Especially because he seemed to be basking in the moment. Oops.

I do support the tea party movement, as I have attended several of these myself. But this is a idiotic mistake. I really lost a lot of respect for him when he supported DeDe in the 23rd District in New York.

On a side note I think the healtcare bill is in big trouble.

I don't think anyone knows what's going to happen on healthcare. As a small business owner, however, I can tell you that I am firmly of the opinion that something needs to be done -- and not nibbling around the edges. I can'y give you exact figures, but since we opened 8 years ago the cost of insuring our emlpoyees has basically tripled. It is not sustainable.

I agree something needs to happen, you wont get any arguement from me on that. I have a lot of ideas that I would like to see. I just don't want any govt interference in healthcare.

The changes that need to be made, were created by the Government in the first place. Stop making the insurance companies cover things that are not necessary for that particular individual and make the "in State only" sale of policies go away

Wow... really surprised CNN would choose to broadcast this. I'm sure they would have done the same had this been a leftist liberal.

Idiotic? Yes. But I'm sure Boehner knows the difference b/t the constitution and the DoI. My guess is he allowed himself to get too caught up in "how" he wanted to deliver the message and lost focus on the actual content. Happens much too often in today's political world of everything being broadcast through the media.

If he had any thoughts of running for national office, those just went bye bye.

Saw it on all the networks, actually. I mean, its pretty hard to miss it. The collective groan at Fox was audible.

But, yes, it was just a mistake. Not that tough to make, really. And its not like they need to have these things memorized.

Its just that he's who he is, where he is, waving it around, trying to gin up the crowd, being all patriotic and "we're doing the right thing, America!" And then gets it wrong like that. Not good.
