| I know that the like Obama in Norway, but this is a bit much (to say the least). I think that they view America as a lot more racist than it is, so his winning was like scaling Mt. Everest in your underwear or something. Any time they would bring up something negative about America, it was followed with "but now Obama is President." They certainly bought the 'hope' speech.
Maybe they have a lower opinion of him in Sweden....if so, we may not have to worry about the prize for Economics coming his way |

Basically, anyone who followed Bush would win one in Europe's eyes. His citation states: Quote: |
for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.
| Look at the wording. This is simply because Europe got "one of their kind" in office. |

He could utterly fail as a president (not saying anything here) but his presidency could still be called a resounding success due to his receipt of the Nobel Prize.
"Obama was a failure as a president. He did nothing to right the wrongs that he promised prior to his election. He socialized the nation and undid everything that this nation did right to win the Cold War. He levied such high taxes on corporations that they had to move their R&D labs overseas. He has cost this nation huge volumes in depreciating our technological and financial dominance"
"Nuh uh, he won the Nobel Prize" |

| So, this is being awarded for:
1) A stated policy for the reduction of the nuclear weapons stockpile and speeches aimed at nonproliferation. There have been meetings with the Russians, but no accords or no treaties.
2) Efforts to reach out to other nations, particularly the Muslim world. Through speeches. He went on a speech tour. No accords, no treaties.
So, it is all pretty much stated policies and speeches. Over the course of 9 months.
Nice. |

Nice. | but the application deadline was Feb 1, which is less than two weeks after he was inaugurated. Prior to that he was an absentee Senator and professional campaign fund raiser. |
