There's a reason why companies are extracting and processing things like oil shale that they wouldn't have even bothered with 20 years ago. Even if fossil fuels can be replenished by abiotic means, it's comparable to waiting around for new emeralds to form.



It's absolutely tragic that people still walk around saying "it's just a theory" about something. The word "theory" in the sciences is a totally different word than the "theory" we use in common speech.

Peak oil is a threat, but unfortunately we will never know exactly how close that threat is, because anymore, it's all about the next crisis or tragedy to keep us serfs in line: Environment, Islamic Fascism, Peak Oil, Economy, and Disease all come to mind.
