Jay-Z and Young Jeezy (Whoever That Is) Have Problems

I haven't ever posted before but I browse frequently to look at other opinions on politics from fellow vol fans. I saw this clip last night on tv and came on this site this morning to see your reactions, but I was surprised it had not been posted.

New York - Inauguration Special: Jay-Z's "My President Is Black" Remix - Sound of the City - Village Voice

First of all I think celebrities and their political opinions are ridiculous to begin with (why does America care what their opinions are when they are usually uninformed and they are clearly not a typical citizen), but that is a different issue...But after rev Lowery's benediction and more event's like Jay Z's "Eve of Change" Concert, I just think racial relations appear to be going backward instead of forward. And when a MTV writer writes about the above and states that "hip-hop has never felt more patriotic" without criticizing at all their extremely unpatriotic lyrics, it is hard not to think that race is going to be on the forefront for the next four years when the country should be moving towards times when a person's race barely gets mentioned.

Jay-Z Toasts To Obama At 'Eve Of Change' - News Story | Music, Celebrity, Artist News | MTV News

Just curious about your thoughts and if you are as outraged about this as I am.

The lady who does my nails (and is black) was telling me about it because I didn't see it. She thought he was horrible, hated the song, hated the way he looked, and was embarrased by him.

Race is going to be an issue if people make it an issue. Which they will, cause this is America and we are sooooo good at being sure we remind each other each and every day that we have a race problem (and it's a two way street obviously).

I feel exactly the same. It seems we are going in the wrong direction as far as race goes. Yes it is great that a black man has gotten to the point to where he can be the President. With that being said, they are making a bigger deal of his skin color than his policies, idealogies, etc. The media is pushing it so far over the line, that is starting to annoy and fluster people. Why can't it just be "the new president of the United States" and not "the new black president of the United States"

I think it's typical for them considering the majority of the crowd they play to. Celebrities are just like anybody else, they have their right to their own views, it annoys me that they believe they should tell us what their feelings at every turn. Shut up and entertain me, you don't get paid for political commentary, this holds true for those on the right and the left, although those on the left seem to be much more venomous with their statements.

I think it's pathetic!!

I can see this two ways... (white) America to an extent deserves a little of what it is getting for certain things that have happened in the past. Because of that I can accept certain things to an extent.

However I'm already starting to get fed up with crap like this that gets swept under the rug.

So Don Imus calls girl bball players nappy headed hos and gets fired and ridiculed nationally but Young Jeezy can call the president a bi*** and nothing happens??

I agree to an extent. That's why I don't really care about the Young Jeezy guy. But with Jay Z (not to mention being married to Beyonce) being so influential especially to young people, I just can't believe he would do this on such a large forum.

So if a white entertainer thanks someone for throwing a shoe at President Obama and calls him a bi*** you don't think his career will be dead?

The media will remind us of it constantly. They overblow everything, create panic and gloomy forecasts. A constant hype machine that never rests.

There would be boycott of anything to do with that person (and rightfully so). Just as their should be a public outcry against Jay Z.

There is certainly a double standard at play here.

they are going to pump out whatever crap their fanbase wants. I am much more offended by Beyonce's crappy Upgrade commercial than what Jay-Z puts out

I like how they feel they are killing racism, when in fact they are refueling it.

I guess that is the worst part of all. Their fan bases actually like this stuff.
