And finally, DON’T use the fact that many on the left behaved abominably for the past eight years as an excuse to behave the same way. America needs adults. And if it bothered you when they did it, it’s a good sign that you shouldn’t do it.
| I'll refrain from calling Obama un-American unless he makes good on some of his more blatantly socialist primary promises.

| amazing how the lesson learned is only applicable now. How many folks on the left insisted on comparing Bush to Hitler on a daily basis? How many called him "Chimp Face" or "Commander in Thief"?
I would say that turnabout is fair play. I can never claim innocence from the use of hyperbole, but unlike the left, I will refrain from personal attacks on both Obama and his family.

| I was behind Bush 100% when he took office in 2001. Supported him completely through the 9/11 tragedy.
I see a lot more personal venom for Obama in this forum than anything against Bush.
It seems as though most of you on the right think because there were Bush bashers from the left, all Dems bashed Bush from the start. There wasn't nearly as much hate in Jan 2001 for Bush as there has been for Obama in Jan of 2009.
Just look at this board. We have guys calling him a racist, a Marxist, etc. Not just one or two guys either. Several do it on a daily basis. I can't believe someone can be so ignorant that he doesn't know how pathetic it is to call Obama Hussein as a racial slur. The guy hit the nail on the head with his article |

Is that a fair enough assessment?

| Bush has been hated since some accused him of stealing the election in 2000, and those same people haven't gotten over it... and never will.

| It goes without saying that Bush will be treated more kindly now that he is gone. This will continue as more and more time passes -- it's simply human nature (and the history books prove this).
That being said, the sentiment of the article is valid -- even if your guy isn't in the White House (which I realize makes it that much harder to bite your tongue). Arguing politics has become more an issue of someone trying to prove another person wrong (i.e. citing extremist cases of left or right as a stereotype for all) vs. actually finding a solution. Its the wrong approach.
I personally don't agree with 90% of what is posted in the politics forum -- but I read it regularly just to keep a fresh perspective and not to be engrained in the Democratic dogma. It's too easy to go and read posts from those that agree with you -- it's harder to listen to those that don't. |

| Of the points, I think the "motives" one is critical to political debate. I try to stick with policy disagreement without assuming the motives behind a policy position -- I assume that Obama believes his policies will be in the best interest of America. I think he's wrong but I don't attribute any malicious nor selfish reasons to his policy decisions.
