Yup, used to live right across the street from the Varsity. Gotta love those homeless people.

Al Jazeera English - Americas - Mexico losing war against drugs

Wow, I had to go all the way to Aljazeer to get that bad news.

Here are some theories on drug use

http://www.umsl.edu/~keelr/180/theordrg.html

And I like the conflict theory the best.

Assumptions:
A. Two kinds of drug use
1. Recreational--Cultural Conflict
2. Abuse--Individual destruction linked to structural inequalty and collapse
B. Movement from recreational use to abuse more likely within impoverished populations (SES and drug use versus SES and drug use problems)

No drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.

I like that quote too.

A part of me wants to say legalize everything, forbid healthcare for conditions related to drug abuse, and let Darwin works itself out. Not sure how reasonable that is though.

Like that will ever happen. Instead, the taxpayers will get to pay for other people's drug abuses.

which would likely be more than covered by revenue from their sale and reduced cost for law enforcement

Oh I agree but just saying that the health care system would never ignore health conditions brought about by drug use.

Personally, I think all drugs should remain illegal except marijuana. Legalizing marijuana alone would save significant amount of taxpayer money, especially people put in jail only for weed type offenses.

If legalized what affect would it have on DEA jobs? Just want your opinion, could this be a reason for not legalizing? I am of the opinion that it does far less to harm users than alcohol does.

we still have an ATF and most of those are legal. I don't think the DEA would ever go away because the US will never legalize everything. This would just allow them to concentrate on other things

The DEA resources should be used to go after the hard drugs. Cost savings could come from the decreased spending to prosecute weed dealers and the fact that they don't use up our jail resources.

Alright good feedback I tend to agree. This makes too much sense though. The Fed Govt will never go for it.
