Probably a good move from a strategic sense. It will force Obama to make the same decision. It will also put Obama in a place he's not all that familiar with, the halls of Congress, where he's only spent 145 days in the last 4 years.

McCain's statement he just gave is about the most Presidential I've seen him look. This in part is a stunt, but it does show some leadership on the issue.

You guys don't think if it was an international crisis we were trying to immediately deal with McCain wouldn't jump at the chance to debate Obama on this in front of 100 Million people?

by doing this he can illuminate the point that obama has never actually done anything in the senate.

If it was a crisis that required congressmen and women to be there I hope every last one of them would be. If his position as congressman had some bearing on the situation my answer is yes, he would be there.

If it was something that he could not help with in congress I don't think he would be there, wouldn't be any need for it.

McCain isn't afraid of debating Obama, if that's what you're wanting to imply. Like the toned down first night of the RNC because of Hurricane Gustav, this is just another example of McCain's leadership experience.

If everyone is expecting McCain to show some leadership on the banking crisis don't hold your breathe.

it's true his recent populist rhetoric isn't endearing himself to conservatives. If you're referring to the Keating 5, McCain's role in that was dismissed as minor and irrelevant.

Too late! He has already done just that by putting off the debate to do his duty by being present in congress.

How do you hold your breathe anyway?

i think mccain is sincere about this and not seeing it as a political stunt. it wouldn't hurt though. i wonder what hussein obama is going to do.

To be fair, of course we McCain supporters are proud of him for this. Stunt or no stunt.
