Wealth redistribution?

I haven't seen this spelled out so clearly until now. Not surprising but...

Quote:
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Friday announced an “Emergency Economic Plan” that would give families a stimulus check of $1,000 each, funded in part by what his presidential campaign calls “windfall profits from Big Oil.”

The first part of Obama’s plan is an emergency energy rebate ($500 to individual workers, $1,000 to families) as soon as this fall.

“This rebate will be enough to offset the increased cost of gas for a working family over the next four months,” Obama said. “Or, if you live in a state where it gets very cold in the winter, it will be enough to cover the entire increase in your heating bills. Or you could use the rebate for any of your other bills or even to pay down debt

Amazing! Isn't this the guy that said (rightly) the gas tax holiday was a gimmick?

This does nothing to address the energy problem - it is simply a sock it to Big Oil plan that will be completely ineffective.

BS!

yeah, but a lot of people actually thought the gas tax holiday would be a great idea. So take that idea and add the word rebate and the general public will probably love this!

The parts I really hate are the sob story reasons for it (home heating, gas prices) when I know if I get the check I'm going to buy an Xbox. But by Obama standards I'm rich so I don't need help and am part of the problem keeping the lower-class down.

Of course they will; just like all other corporate taxes get passed down the line . . . This is one of the dumbest vote grab gimmicks that I've ever seen.

it's certainly a great way to encourage more oil exploration.

Exactly . . . I don't know why he is even worrying about being detailed about anything at this point given how well he is doing by not saying jack. A campaign devoid of specifics is better than a campaign full of stupid specifics.
