I don't have an axe to grind with you personally. I just think that people like you are just reaching for any reason at all to convince yourselves to vote for McCain. If he picks Olympia Snowe, you'll probably look for some other reason to support McCain come November.

You have to admit that waiting for any candidate to name a VP before your decide to throw your support behind them is a pretty weak excuse. I mean, you could make a very compelling argument that a First Lady has more influence on a candidates agenda or how a candidate will govern than a VP (Eleanor Roosevelt, Hillary).

again, you're grinding your axe. How and why I make the decision on who to vote for really isn't any of your concern or your business. However, I'll humor you just a little bit. When the GOP field was fully established, Tom Tancredo was my candidate of choice, followed by Thompson. McCain was among the bottom feeders (Paul, Giuliani) and I knew from McCain Feingold and McCain-Kennedy that I didn't like him.

Unlike you, I hate the thought of this country led by Obama and abetted by Pelosi and Reid in the Congress in the hopes that the GOP will rediscover Newt Gingrich. My best hope for this election is split government, but I can't in good conscience vote for John McCain if his VP choice is weak and won't be someone who can succeed in 2012 or 2016.

Just out of curiosity, are you a Tennessee fan?

I hate it that it has come to this, also. But sadly, it is the GOPs fault that the country is where it is right now. They entered the decade with both the house and senate and the White House. Today, they are on the verge of losing all three. Not to mention Supreme Court nominees. If you would rather live with mediocrity and settle for Gerald Ford/Bob Dole type candidates, then you deserve what you get. I'll vote for Paul, Tancredo, or whoever comes closest to a strict conservative in the general election. Just because McCain is the GOP nominee, that doesn't make him a conservative, nor does it mean that I have to support him.

And the very fact that you have waited this long to make a decision indicates exactly what I said about people like you. You are just waiting for any excuse you can find that will give a reason to justifiably support McCain. The fact that you haven't been able to find a reason to support him up to now is telling. You are just as disgruntled as all of us are, but you choose to maintain the status quo in an effort to support the lesser of 2 evils.

You're not gonna be voting for McCain, you're voting against Obama.

I have nothing against you. I just think that your reason for not supporting McCain right now (pending who his choice for VP is) is a weak excuse. What difference in the overall scheme of day to day governing does it make who the VP is? Unless they are the rare exception (Dick Cheney), most of these guys are just wall flowers on the sidelines, at best. Non-factors at worst.

have you considered that maybe I'm hoping for the "rare exception" once again?

Until we have a candidate who is truly "The Best Man (or Woman) for the Job" we will continue to vote for the person least likely to screw us over more than the last guy did. Until a candidate has the stones to stand up and quit worrying about hurting somebody's feelings because what he says is true, lesser of 2 evils will be the status quo. And it's sad people, very sad. This country is in a downward spiral of morality, self control, self respect, and dignity. We have taken political correctness to an extreme that is destroying our country. We have generations of families on welfare. Not because they can't fend for themselves, but because we allow them to be lazy with no incentive to better themselves. Our government continues (no matter what party is in the oval office) to try to spend our way into prosperity. Knowing it doesn't work. And no, we can't give the citizens everything for free and simply tax the rich to pay for it. Eventually those rich will be unable to provide and who is going to replace them? Nobody because who wants to work hard and become wealthy if the government is going to tax you to death to pay for the lazy? That is how socialism works. The government is expected to provide everything (basically) for the people and pay for it by taking all the wealth of the country. That worked out pretty good for the USSR huh? Wasn't it Stalin (not sure) who said they would take us without firing a shot? Well guess what folks, we are getting closer to it every day and with every election.

You probably are "hoping" for that. I still think that you are reaching... reaching for anything that will give you a reason to vote FOR McCain, as opposed to AGAINST Obama.

I'm sure he's an intelligent person that is able to weigh the pros and cons of each candidate and make a choice. Your amateur psychoanalysis of his motivations is condescending.

This is the kind of stuff that happens when there's no incumbent running.

For the life of me I never understand why Democrats nominate liberals and Republicans nominate old people.
