I'm not putting that responsibility directly on him but he can surely use his influence to make the push for that to happen.

In this case, I think you are putting an issue on someone it does not belong.

I though that would go along with sovereignty. Healthcare does need to be reigned in some though. If we quit footing the bill for so many ER visits from illegals that should help some, but more needs to be done.

Incorrect. We have hordes of Americans who simply want every dime the government will give them at the least expense or effort on their own part. Those folks want no part of a balanced budget, because their funds would dry up quickly.

So you're saying the Devil is in the American people?

Nor is he a conservative republican...

2. his energy policy is more rooted in reality than Obama's. He favors the development of alternatives along with aggressive oil exploration and drilling. Obama wants to maintain the status quo with regards to oil and focus solely on development of alternatives.

Except in ANWR...

a vote for Bob Barr or any of the other 3rd party candidates, while fine in principle, is a wasted vote. For good or ill, the two main parties have created a system where 3rd parties are marginalized.

But a vote for McCain isn't essentially a vote for a moderate? Either way, you are moving the country to the left with a vote for McCain or Obama. The only question is if you want an immediate shift or want to be bled to death slowly...

So it's not individual people's fault for manipulating the system?

Is it capitalism's fault when some companies (Enron, e.g.) cook their books to try to make their financials look better?
