It certainly is not free. Everything has a cost, some monetary and some not. Every service you hand over to the government costs you more in money and in other ways as well.

I heard on the radio that the person responsible for designing the Canadian Health Care system admits it cannot go on as designed and they will need to get money injected into it from the insurance companies and business otherwise it will fail completely.

People want to feel safe, and some think they have to depend on the goverment. For politicians, it means more power.

Because large numbers of people are lazy and would rather have someone else take care of their problems for them. Why is some young voter going to be against the idea of UHC when all he sees is less of his money going towards taking care of himself and more of his money going towards disposable spending, or so he thinks.

Look at it this way in that system you are a number not an individual. For instance there are some drugs that they will not provide because most of the people with your particular problem do well with prescription B and C. We all know that some people respond differently to some medications than others. Now what if prescription A was the one that relieved your chronic pain or kept your blood sugar in balance the best. What if you couldn't get that prescription that seemed tailor made for you because it was more expensive and most did fine without it. This kind of thing is happening in countries with socialized medicine, do the research.

Easy, people honestly believe it is free and they will be able to see a doctor the day of or the following day when in reality it will be several months before any thing happens.

Government = Failure!
