The Bible Topic Thread.... I'll start....

Most Christian thought holds to the consensus that it is by grace rather than works that people are saved. But how exactly is grace conferred?

Moreover, is it required that the correct beliefs be held by the elect in order for salvation to occur? As an example, could I be saved if I don't believe in the virgin birth, or in the trinity or some other important doctrine? What must I believe and not believe if I am to attain eternal life in accordance with Christian theology?

As an aside, believers in any other faith or none at all may chime in with their own thoughts on the matter.

Thoughts?

This seems like a potentially civil topic.

I say Deism is the closest thing to what I believe. I think God reveals himself through many religions so I don't think you have to take everything in the Bible as Gospel (forgive the pun). I was raised Christian so that's the context I use for understanding God but I don't see him as a "day-to-day" involvement guy.

I became a Christian at the age of 8! By grace you are saved through faith. To have faith in Christ and accept him as your personal savior, you receive God's Grace.

Started in 1899 as a parachurch organization and started their tradiontal bible outreach in hotels in 1908.

Their name comes from the Bible Character Gideon which is why they use the pitcher and torch as their logo.

The stupid answer is a printing press!

How do you not see him as "day-to-day"

Would you accept the faith of another if they were to tell you that they do not believe in the virgin birth?

I agree with VBH on that one. I think God has macro plans but thankfully not micro ones. I assume this is what VBH means.

I view him as a creator but not one who is monitoring and rewarding/punishing individuals on a constant daily basis.

As I said, similar to this approach:

Deism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pretty much - I don't expect him or St. Anthony to help me find my keys...
