Bush urges Israeli occupation end

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Bush urges Israeli occupation end

Quote:
US President George W Bush has said Israel must end its occupation of some Arab land to enable the creation of a viable Palestinian state.

He also urged a solution to the issue of Palestinian refugees that would involve paying them compensation.
It is thought to be Mr Bush's strongest public statement pressing Israel to give up land it seized in the 1967 war.
He was speaking in Jerusalem following two days of separate talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. He has been trying to encourage the two sides into peace talks, and says he wants a peace deal signed by the time he leaves office in January 2009.
Thoughts?

But his statement set out some parameters within which he expected negotiators to work.
These included:
  • Palestinian refugee families should be compensated, rather than returning to former homes in what is now Israel
  • adjustments to the pre-1967 boundaries "to reflect current realities" - a reference to Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank
Thoughts?

I understand that, but they can give them ALL the land they want and it still won't be good enough.

they shouldn't be forced to give back any land. Most of the pre-1948 Palestinian Mandate territory is in present-day Jordan, but you don't hear a lot of demands for that territory to be ceded.

Personally, I think the President should announce that Israel is free to defend itself in any way it sees fit and that the US will veto any UNSC resolution against Israel.
That'll stop a lot of the crap, especially since the UN views Israel as a US lapdog. Remove the chains from a cornered dog and see what happens.
