lol

A representative from Sanders's office said they had not yet done a cost estimate for the plan or decided how it would be funded, saying they were still crafting the proposal.

I actually agree with some form of governmental job guarantee program that would help rebuild our failing infrastructure.

If you're on gov't assistance, show up and grab a shovel. We'll have the shovel-ready road construction jobs ready.

So people who can't get a job today are gonna be the ones fixing our bridges? oh boy
Yep, they did a test run using those folks to build the pedestrian bridge at Florida International U. They will get the bugs worked out. Nothing to worry about.

only thing I would trust them on is picking up trash. not sure what all you can trust them to do.

and it still fall into the category of not seeing the tree thru the forest. they don't want jobs/can't handle jobs.

No, he’s assuming these people want a paycheck. If they wanted to work they would be already.

You can see the effects of full employment in your day to day shopping. Outside of Chikfila, the quality of workers has gone down drastically over the past couple years. The people working service now are scraping the bottom of the barrel. If we accept 5% as the natural unemployment rate, who is this supposed to be helping?

1. I don't think Bernie cares to be honest - I think it's a talking point and effort to promote more govt influence in the labor market and to push $15 minimum wage and universal HC.

2. The 5% is theoretical under conditions of full or near full labor participation. We still have an unusually high % of people out of the labor force - unfortunately we've created incentives to keep it that way. Doubtful Bernie's plan would lure them out of that status.

3. Given #2 I agree that we're approaching the point where the pool of qualified workers who want to work but aren't is tiny.

10k boomers are leaving the workforce every day. We are not replacing them in the same numbers. So I think the participation rate will continue to decline, but it’s not necessarily an indicator of weakness. We just don’t have enough people to plug the holes. At any rate technology is lessening the impact of these departures. I think that also has something to do with relatively stagnant wages. What positions are being replaced are done with younger employees that don’t have pensions and PPO insurance. The job gets filled but at a much lower expense.

I look forward to my turn to be a leech on society in about 5 yrs. I will of course then swap to a socialist liberal agenda and expect many entitlements!!

...

No I won’t. Because the bastards are going to tax the hell outta my 401k/savings/ pension and wife’s pension if I do something stupid like that.

Bernie Sanders to announce plan to guarantee every American a job - The Washington Post

Even with 4.1% unemployment, Bernie’s got a plan. Gillibrand and and Booker are on board. Do the democrats WANT to win another election?

Seems like the Soviet Union and FDR had the same ideas. Everybody should know enough about one history - totalitarianism is all that makes extreme socialism work because socialism is always about using somebody else's money. FDR is the gift that keeps on giving; the bringer of entitlements and those who walk in his footsteps spawning new entitlements that we'll never pay for.

He's assuming these people want to work. I'd love to see this. Would absolutely expose the entitlement system.

I'm thinking a really big boom in the disabled category. Ambulance chasing will be a thing of the past until the legal profession can catch up.

It's worse than you think. If those pensions and retirement plans add up enough - and it's not all that much, they tax your SS; don't forget the Medicare premium you'll probably get to pay.

Ive already got my SS benefits judged way down in my retirement model. I absolutely expect the bastards to put means testing on my benefits also in addition to the taxes I knew I would owe.
