HBO has started production on a John McCain documentary

Production has begun on an HBO documentary about Sen. John Sidney McCain, III. Produced and directed by six-time Emmy winner Peter Kunhardt (HBO’s Jim: The James Foley Story, King in the Wilderness), along with Emmy winners George Kunhardt and Teddy Kunhardt, the John McCain documentary is an illuminating, exclusive profile of one of the most influential forces in modern American politics.

Serving 31 years, the six-term senior Arizona senator John McCain agreed to participate in the film shortly after being diagnosed with brain cancer, providing unprecedented access to his daily life in Washington, D.C. and Sedona, Ariz. The film also features interviews with family, friends, colleagues and leading political figures.

This sweeping account combines John McCain’s own voice, culled from original interviews, commentary, and speeches, with archival newsreel and television footage and previously unseen home movies and photographs. What emerges is a portrait of an American maverick who has kept his eye on the most important American goals.

“Through the years, John has rightly earned the reputation as an American hero,” says Peter Kunhardt. “In the final chapter of his life, he is reminding this generation of what government can and should look like.”

If it's actually balanced like the one they did on Cheney, it'll be worth watching. From the quotes mentioned above, it doesn't sound like it will be.

The one on Cheney really showed insight into the man, from both a positive and critical perspective. I'm surprised he sat to be interviewed for it, because it didn't always portray him in the greatest light.

It was good. Cheney came across to me as an evil guy that didn't think he was evil.

People can do terribly stupid things in an attempt to achieve whatever they see as the ultimate good. Crusaders are the most dangerous government types, IMO.

C.S. Lewis has a great quote that ties in to what you mentioned.

“Of all the tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under the omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

Of course he didn't. I'd wager that the vast majority of bad people don't think they are bad. The logic of such people usually boils down to the ends justifying the means.

I think that this clip of him from the documentary is particularly telling.

Great quote. Thanks.

Reminds me of Luther.

In other words, leftist socialism.

You guys think it will include him crashing planes and graduating at the bottom of his class ?

No, but it might include bone spurs and porn stars, payoffs and bankruptcies, con games and Russian hooker.

See? The rest of the world can play this game, too.

He did just fine. I know you hate it.

Actually wasn’t bothered by him.
I haven’t voted for any president since Bush SR.
I feel that local voting is more important.
Blaming a president or giving him credit is kinda like blaming or crediting Ronald McDonald for your hamburger.

Lol, funny since your party has mocked every conservative that has experienced a tragic event.

Comments such as this normally do go without any examples cited. Can you name one time when a Congressional member of the GOP was mocked by a member of a Democratic Party Presidential administration following a tragedy?

Actually
The best times I’ve lived through seems to be when one part controlled Congress and the othe the presidency. Regan with Dems and Clinton with the Repubs were both good for me. So fat Trump (all alone) and Congress whoever has been ok.
Now when one party has both things haven’t been great.

It’s all about balance Y’all

Edit: lol at “fat” Trump. * far

Don't Republicans currently control both the House and the Senate?

...and I assume that "fat Trump" was a typo rather than an unconscious slip/insult. LOL.
