TRUMP DOSSIER CLAIMS HAVE CREDIBILITY, SAYS FORMER SPY CHIEF
Spy chief regrets '45 minute' Iraq weapons claim
The controversial dossier compiled about President Donald Trumps alleged business dealings in Russia and his campaigns contacts with the Kremlin has some credibility, Britains former chief spy said Thursday.
I think that there is probably some credibility to the content. I wouldn't put it any more forcefully than that, said Sir Richard Dearlove, who ran Britains spy agency MI6 between 1999 and 2004, in an interview with BBC's Newsnight.
Spy chief regrets '45 minute' Iraq weapons claim
Britain's top foreign intelligence chief has conceded that the Blair Government's most controversial claim about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein had been given undue prominence in the prewar dossier on Iraq.
Sir Richard Dearlove, head of MI6, told the Hutton inquiry via an audio link that the intelligence used in last September's dossier had been accurate and reliable. But the claim that Saddam could deploy chemical and biological weapons within 45 minutes had been open to "misinterpretation" and, in hindsight, overemphasised.
