"Today's chemical attack in Syria against innocent people including women and children is reprehensible and cannot be ignored by the civilized world," Spicer said. "These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the past administration's weakness and irresolution."

Spicer added: "President (Barack) Obama said in 2012 he would establish a red line against the use of chemical weapons and then did nothing. The United States stands with our allies across the globe to condemn this intolerable act."

Well, he isn't exactly wrong about that.

I'm not sure what we were supposed to do in Syria to begin with. In that instance, probably best not to make a threat that you will not or cannot follow through on.

Blaming the previous administration is nothing new any more. Obama never took responsibility for anything as long as there was some way to pin the blame on Bush.

I don't disagree but the logic that, therefore, this attack was Obama's fault, is just incomprehensible.

Fitting Spicer said it as he has trouble speaking in complete sentences half the time.

If Obama got involved like he said he would have, perhaps Assad wouldn't be using chemical weapons. Perhaps a single retaliatory response would be sufficient to stop him, or perhaps we would have destroyed his stockpiles. Perhaps all of that wouldn't be the case, but you can pretty easily make an argument that Obama's stated desire to want to get overtly involved, followed up by nothing, did help create a kind of vacuum in Syria that both Assad and Putin have exploited.

Spicer's response is just a typical hyperbolic statement from a political spokesman; nothing new there.

The interesting thing is that if Obama did follow through on his threat, ISIS, al-Nusra, or some other extremist group would probably be running all of Syria. So it is actually good that he didn't do it.

It's in poor taste to add those eye-rolling gifs to a post about a genuinely heinous issue, regardless of your political affiliation.

It's Obama's fault.

Bush was blamed for the economy and the war in Iraq.

In all reality, Bush started the war in Iraq without reason and the economy tanked under his watch.

Obama made a threat he never intended to keep which was pu$$y crap. Spicer's statement is nothing but more pu$$y crap.

OK. So to state the obvious question: WHAT IS TRUMP GONNA DO? All Spicer ever seems to do is point fingers elsewhere. How about this administration generates an original thought / plan for the love of Jeebus! Don't like Syria's actions? Don't criticize Omaba, COME UP WITH A NEW RESPONSE! You're in power now dip****s!

As if this is friggin rocket science.

I see McCarthy, I mean McCain just brought up the Russian angle again and said we needed to arm the Free Syrian Army.

Thought we'd seen that dance before.

Trump does not know where Syria is.

Interestingly enough, you skipped over the really important part of that briefing...

Despite the attack, the Trump administration has said that it is up to the people of Syria to pick a leader and that their priority is not getting Assad out of office.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on a trip to Turkey that the "longer-term status of President Assad will be decided by the Syrian people."

And in New York, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley was even stronger about the Trump administration's decision not to push for Assad's departure.

"Our priority is no longer to sit and focus on getting Assad out," Haley told wire reporters last week, according to AFP.

"Do we think he's a hindrance? Yes," she said. "Are we going to sit there and focus on getting him out? No."

A major shift in policy regarding Syria and all you can focus on is the Obama angle. Classic LG.
