A very interesting read...

Leading Experts Issue a Warning That Vitality of Nation Is Waning

America faces 20 perils which may block its road to permanent supremacy! Such is the warning of the most eminent scientists in the country...

Here are some of the items for those who may not want to read the article.

  • Increase in divorces
  • Large number of defectives in school
  • Increasing idiocy and insanity
  • Enormous number of drug and alcohol victims
  • America leads all nations in murders
  • Extraordinary increase in sedentary work
  • Hearty eating without exercise
  • Increasing obesity
  • Noticeable low resistance to disease
  • Increase in suicides

Also of interest is that the article is from 1916.

As long as there are progressives, then it will head down the wrong path.

Every "superpower" fades eventually. The British Empire failed, the French, the Soviets, one day America will to fade into being a 2nd rate power it is just a question of when and who replaces us.

Sad but true.

The 18th-century historian Edward Gibbon listed 8 reasons why empires fail:

  1. Decline in Morals and Values
  2. Public Health
  3. Political Corruption
  4. Unemployment
  5. Inflation
  6. Urban decay
  7. Inferior Technology
  8. Military Spending

One could certainly argue that most of these apply today.

We are not to far off the path the Romans took.

One could argue that was also the case in 1865.

IDK, some of the points aren't even necessarily bad signs for the future....like divorce rate....yeah we don't like a high divorce rater this minute, but it has no bearing on what it will be 20 years from now.

Or "increase in idiocy and insanity"? What does that even mean? Are we more idiotic than when we thought blacks had inferior brains and women shouldn't work?

Low resistance to disease? Clearly. Smallpox wiped out half the neighborhood this winter.
