Senator Kennedy stepping up to the mic and calling Iraq, "President Bush's Viet Nam" does little to advance what should be a dialogue of solutions. I'm weary of this type of incendiary politicking.
My hopes for Democrats' regaining some control in congress were catalyzed by the expectation that the more forward thinking members of the party might finally get their voice to the front of the discourse. Mr. Kennedy, I am done with your ilk. My thoughts are on the future, and you no longer see what I seek.

I found his comments (as well as those from other congressional members) regarding war funding particularly interesting.

Essentially, they want to cherry pick funding to a degree that is essentially unconstitutional (even Biden acknowledges that). They also want congress to have the authority to approve parts of the war strategy.

Where's the outcry about the "mad power grab" by Congress and the violation of the Constitution? How about the defacto 60 for confirmation of judges imposed via fillibuster in the last Senate?

As I said when the NSA flap was going on, fights for power among the 3 separate but equal branches are age-old. It all gets sorted out in the end. Contrary to those who claim the Constitution is being tossed to the side, I believe these are all indications of the power of the Constitution.

Its just politics and an opportunity to starkly contrast anti-war Dems with either moderates or even pro-war Dems. Things like this make Liberman and those who feel like he does cringe because it will put them in direct opposition to the party and the party faithful who oppose the war.

Can't remember who it was the other night on Matthews' show, but he said that the candidate that most clearly articulates that he/she is opposed to the war and wants to end our presence there is the person who will get the Democratic nomination for '08.

I think that's true.
