What's the difference between a Republican and a Nazi?

You can find loosely aligned theories linking Dems to Republicans, Republicans to Socialists, and on and on.

It's a tired exercise in false equivalency.

There are many who do not see a discernable difference between a Democrat, Socialist, or Communist.

Agreed. I got a buddy that thinks the Feds should control/regulate EVERYTHING! I have nicknamed Commie. He loves him some Bernie Sanders

The GOP does not have any canidates running as Republican Nazis. Bernie Sanders is being called a Democratic Socialist. Hilary is running as a democrat. If there is a difference, between a democratic socialist and just a regular Dem....it should be easy to explain

The whole notion of Nazis being "right-wing" is a tired argument.

In fact, the whole discussion of left and right has been misconstrued. The left to right spectrum only pertains to economics. Far left being complete government control of all industry, planning, etc. The closest we have seen lately is the Soviet Union or North Korea, but even they had/have some private industry somewhere, like the black market.

Far right is no government control of the economy, a completely "free market" as the Libertarians are so fond us. No regulations. Nothing. Essentially economic anarchy. The opposite of complete control by the government. There are no complete anarcho capitalistic countries in the world, because even countries with very little government infrastructure have some small level of oversight or regulation, even if it is corrupt.

The part of the spectrum people forget to mention is the vertical one. Above the left and right horizontal line is the "authoritarian" area and below is the "libertarian" area (not to be confused with upper case Libertarian party).

In the authoritarian left is where you'll find government controlled economies with dictators and oligarchies like Stalin and Hitler (Stalin further left because Hitler allowed some private companies to produce for him, even though the Reich technically owned everything too).

In the right side you have free markets proponents with the want to legislate morality, like current Republicans (but even modern Republicans love them some government money, so they're pretty close to the center, if not actually left of it.)

The libertarian left is more socialist and current Democrats (but not as far left). This side wants more government oversight of the economy, but not necessarily complete dominance. They also want people to be free to live their lives as they see fit (libertarian is derived from liberty or freedom).

The libertarian right wants more free markets, away from the constraints of government, but also want people to live their lives how they see fit.

I am libertarian left, but closer to the center. A libertarian centrist.

And we see here an example of someone who has fallen for this most rudimentary of logical fallacies.

I weep for the future.

And here we have a Lawyer who can't argue the difference between A and B....so he deflects. Typical

If you have pride in your country you automatically get labeled "right wing".
