Report: Walmart has $76 billion in offshore tax havens - CBS News

Someone needs to run on preventing this kind of chicanery.

Lol. You freaking capitalism hating retards are the reason companies have to find idiotic loopholes to safeguard their bank accounts offshore. Want to bring jobs, innovation, and capital back to the US? Get rid of lobbyists, cut regulations, open up true free trade, and cut taxes. If you are against all of those measures, then you can't really complain when a company goes to extreme measures to protect their nest egg.

The same crooked D's and R's who get re-elected term after term.

So, rid the country of the establishment that reaps the back door rewards and institute a simple, low flat corporate tax rate that is equal and fair. Take it out of the hands of all politicians and then there are no offshore hidden transactions and no loopholes to finagle.

And for all practical purposes, "Find" and "create" can be used interchangeably. The point is, don't have government make business impossible in the United states and expect the companies to just deal with it.

Why should a company be taxed by the US on profits made outside the US? At a minimum, it should be a nominal tax to encourage them to bring that money home.

Liberal lunacy

Block all things that make the free market function properly, then complain the free market doesn't work

Why do you assume so? If the system provides for a fair and equitable environment, followed with extremely harsh deterrents, no company is going to foolishly gamble on minimal value. You make the system work for the companies, not against it.

When that happens, you are not going to risk everything for minor or small incremental growth. The risk doesn't outweigh the reward. Honesty has nothing to do with it, fear does.

Every tax code ever written alters behavior. That's why I think it is funny when politicians project tax revenues once a new tax is passed. It never meets projections.

The code would have to be written to make it more advantageous for C corps to keep the money here...either through incentives or punishments. But we can't do that because then it's not "fair" to the "little guy".

Our system is pathetic.

like fees if they don't pay the lower taxes? or are you going to tell them to get out? Lower taxes with higher penalties isn't going to be any different than high taxes with low penalties.

as people have said a corporation will do whatever it can to not pay money out.

How about this thing where they set up dummy corporations to rent their own buildings ... to themselves. At a paper loss, so they can take deductions. No money actually ever left Wal-Mart.

The "loss" is literally manufactured by them.
